Abstract

A structured color cosmetic composition comprising water, a phenyl-substituted silicone, nonionic surfactant, and particulates, and a method for improving moisturization and hydration of lips by applying such a composition.

Claims (40)

1 . A structured color cosmetic composition comprising water, a phenyl-substituted silicone having a viscosity ranging from about 650 to 600,000 centipoise at 25° C., a nonionic surfactant, and particulates.

2 . The composition of claim 1 wherein the phenyl-substituted silicone has the general formula:

wherein OR′ is SiMe 3 wherein Me is methyl, and y and z are each independently 1-1000.

3 . The composition of claim 1 wherein the phenyl-substituted silicone is trimethylsiloxyphenyl dimethicone.

4 . The composition of claim 3 wherein the nonionic surfactant is a silicone surfactant.

5 . The composition of claim 4 wherein the nonionic surfactant is dimethicone copolyol, cetyl dimethicone copolyol, or mixtures thereof.

6 . The composition of claim 5 wherein the structuring agent is a silicone wax, a synthetic wax, a natural wax, or mixtures thereof.

7 . The composition of claim 6 wherein the structuring agent includes a synthetic wax.

8 . The composition of claim 1 which is a lipstick comprising from about:

0.1 to 85% trimethylsiloxyphenyl dimethicone,

0.1 to 85% water,

0.01 to 20% dimethicone copolyol, cetyl dimethicone copolyol, or mixtures thereof,

0.01-65% of one or more structuring agents; and

0.01-95% particulates.

9 . The composition of claim 8 further comprising one or more sunscreens.

10 . The composition of claim 9 having an SPF ranging from about 1 to 25.

11 . A method for moisturizing and hydrating lips comprising applying to the lips a lipstick composition comprising water and at least one occlusive oil capable of forming a barrier layer on the lips after the lipstick composition has been applied to the lips.

12 . The method of claim 11 wherein the at least one occlusive oil forms a water entrapping barrier layer on the lips.

13 . The method of claim 12 wherein at least a portion of the water present in the lipstick is entrapped by the barrier layer.

14 . The method of claim 13 wherein the at least one occlusive oil forms an ingredient entrapping barrier layer on the lips.

15 . The method of claim 14 wherein the ingredients trapped by the barrier layer are oils, pigments, water soluble ingredients, or mixtures thereof.

16 . The method of claim 11 wherein the at least one occlusive oil is a phenyl-substituted silicone.

17 . The method of claim 16 wherein the phenyl-substituted silicone oil has a viscosity of greater than about 650 centipoise at 25° C.

18 . The method of claim 17 wherein the phenyl-substituted silicone oil has a viscosity of greater than about 850 centipoise at 25° C.

19 . The method of claim 16 wherein the phenyl-substituted silicone has the general formula:

wherein OR′ is SiMe 3 wherein Me is methyl, and y and z are each independently 1-1000.

20 . The method of claim 1 wherein the lipstick composition comprises water, a nonionic surfactant, the oil, and at least one structuring agent.

21 . The method of claim 20 wherein the nonionic surfactant is a silicone surfactant.

22 . The method of claim 21 wherein the silicone surfactant is dimethicone copolymer, cetyl dimethicone copolymer, or mixtures thereof.

23 . The method of claim 20 wherein the composition additionally comprises at least one oil in addition to the occlusive oil.

24 . The method of claim 23 wherein the additional oil comprises a silicone oil, an organic oil, or mixtures thereof.

25 . The method of claim 24 wherein the additional oil has a viscosity ranging from about 1 to 649 centipoise at 25° C.

26 . The method of claim 24 wherein the at least one additional oil is a volatile or non-volatile silicone oil.

27 . The method of claim 24 wherein the at least one additional oil is a non-volatile organic oil.

28 . The method of claim 27 wherein the non-volatile organic oil comprises a linear or branched ester, a hydrocarbon, a polymeric hydrocarbon, or mixtures thereof.

29 . A structured color cosmetic composition comprising a phenyl-substituted silicone having a viscosity ranging from about 650 to 600,000 centipoise at 25° C. and at least one oil having a molecular mass of less than 500 grams/mole.

30 . The composition of claim 29 wherein the oil has a molecular mass ranging from about 50 to 450 grams/mole.

31 . The composition of claim 29 wherein the oil has a molecular mass ranging from about 100 to 400 grams/mole.

32 . The composition of claim 29 wherein the oil has a molecular mass ranging from about 200 to 400 grams/mole.

33 . The composition of claim 29 wherein the oil is octyldodecyl neopentanoate, neopentylglycol diethylhexanoate, or mixtures thereof.
