View Patent ↗Improved mobile content presentation capabilities are disclosed for mobile communications facilities, such as cell phones. Information relating to the location of mobile communication facilities and other capabilities are employed to improve the presentation and relevance of mobile content to appropriate or desirable mobile communication facilities.
1. A computer-implemented method for presenting user characteristic and location influenced search results via a display of a mobile communication facility, the method comprising the steps of:
receiving a search request from a user of the mobile communication facility, wherein the search request is received over a cellular telephony infrastructure provided by a carrier, wherein the user is paying for use of the mobile communication facility with the carrier, wherein the search request includes a keyword query entered by the user and:
an implicit query, wherein the implicit query requires no input by the user and comprises:
(a) a time of day; and
(b) a location of the mobile communication facility determined automatically; and
an explicit query, wherein the explicit query is initiated by the user and comprises:
(a) a textual input or a voice input of the user; and
(b) a location entered by the user that is other than the location of the mobile communication facility;
receiving from the carrier information relating to a plurality of user characteristics derived by the carrier, wherein the plurality of user characteristics are at least:
(a) two or more demographics associated with the user, wherein the demographics are obtained from the billing system of the carrier; and
(b) usage patterns of the mobile communication facility including past mobile communication facility transactions comprising click-throughs; and
transmitting search results for presentation on the display of the mobile communication facility relating to the keyword query in a list that is prioritized according to relevancy, wherein the relevancy is at least part based on the information relating to the plurality of user characteristics and the implicit query or the explicit query.
2. A system for presenting user characteristic and location influenced search results via a display of a mobile communication facility, the system comprising a computer having a computer readable storage medium having stored thereon instructions which, when executed by a processor of the computer, causes the processor to perform the steps of:
receiving a search request from a user of the mobile communication facility, wherein the search request is received over a cellular telephony infrastructure provided by a carrier, wherein the user is paying for use of the mobile communication facility with the carrier, wherein the search request includes a keyword query entered by the user and:
an implicit query, wherein the implicit query requires no input by the user and comprises:
(a) a time of day; and
(b) a location of the mobile communication facility determined automatically; and
an explicit query, wherein the explicit query is initiated by the user and comprises:
(a) a textual input or a voice input of the user; and
(b) a location entered by the user that is other than the location of the mobile communication facility;
receiving from the carrier information relating to a plurality of user characteristics derived by the carrier, wherein the plurality of user characteristics are at least:
(a) two or more demographics associated with the user, wherein the demographics are obtained from the billing system of the carrier; and
(b) usage patterns of the mobile communication facility including past mobile communication facility transactions comprising click-throughs; and
transmitting search results for presentation on the display of the mobile communication facility relating to the keyword query in a list that is prioritized according to relevancy, wherein the relevancy is at least part based on the information relating to the plurality of user characteristics and the implicit query or the explicit query.
3. A computer readable storage medium having stored thereon instructions which, when executed by a processor, causes the processor to:
receive a search request from a user of the mobile communication facility, wherein the search request is received over a cellular telephony infrastructure provided by a carrier, wherein the user is paying for use of the mobile communication facility with the carrier, wherein the search request includes a keyword query entered by the user and:
an implicit query, wherein the implicit query requires no input by the user and comprises:
(a) a time of day; and
(b) a location of the mobile communication facility determined automatically; and
an explicit query, wherein the explicit query is initiated by the user and comprises:
(a) a textual input or a voice input of the user; and
(b) a location entered by the user that is other than the location of the mobile communication facility;
receive from the carrier information relating to a plurality of user characteristics derived by the carrier, wherein the plurality of user characteristics are at least:
(a) two or more demographics associated with the user, wherein the demographics are obtained from the billing system of the carrier; and
(b) usage patterns of the mobile communication facility including past mobile communication facility transactions comprising click-throughs; and
transmit search results for presentation on the display of the mobile communication facility relating to the keyword query in a list that is prioritized according to relevancy, wherein the relevancy is at least part based on the information relating to the plurality of user characteristics and the implicit query or the explicit query.
