Abstract

A system and method is provided for generating a software application including a plurality of components, a first set of the components having metadata descriptors expressed in a structured definition language for defining configuration information of the software application and a second set of the components being expressed as a series of scripted instructions coupled to the metadata descriptors for defining a workflow of the software application. The software application is used for facilitating interaction with a schema-defined service by a terminal device over a network. The system and method comprise a workflow extractor for identifying a workflow sequence generated by a modeling tool in an output of the modeling tool. The workflow sequence is associated with at least one of a flow diagram or a relational diagram of the modeling tool for describing interactions between a pair of components of the first set of components. The system and method also include a workflow generator for generating a workflow mechanism based on the identified workflow sequence, the workflow mechanism for associating processing of the metadata descriptors of one component of the pair of components with the other component of the pair of components during execution of the software application. The workflow mechanism can be a component mapping expressed in the metadata descriptors of the first set of components or expressed as the series of scripted instructions.

Claims (37)

1. A system for generating a component application including a plurality of components, the component application for facilitating interaction with a schema-defined service by a device over a network, the system comprising:

a computer processor;

an analyzer receiving a definition document of a data source, and parsing metadata descriptors of a definition document to identify descriptors of a first set of components;

a modeling tool producing a modeling sequence and generating a model output; and

an application converter comprising:

a workflow extractor identifying the modeling sequence in the modeling output including a model, the model having the first set of components having metadata descriptors expressed in a structured definition language for defining configuration information of the component application, the modeling sequence denoting relations between the first set of components;

a workflow generator generating a script based workflow component and updating a cross-component mapping based on the identified modeling sequence; and

a transforming module transforming the first set of components of the model into a first definition format to produce a component set;

wherein the application converter combines the script based workflow component and the updated component set to generate said component application.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the first set of components comprises: a data component, a presentation component, and a message component.

3. The system of claim 2 , wherein the data component is configured to define data entities used by the component application, the presentation component is configured to define the appearance and behaviour of the component application, and the message component is configured for use by the component application to define messages between other applications on the device or between the component application and the schema-defined service.

4. The system of claim 2 , further comprising a mapping analyzer, the mapping analyzer analyzing the message component and the data component, and generating the cross-component mapping.

5. The system of claim 2 , further comprising a screen builder generating the presentation component corresponding to manipulation associated with the data component and message component.

6. The system of claim 2 , further comprising a schema converter converting a syntax and a format of the data component, the message component and the presentation component, and the cross-component mapping into a format suitable for importing by the modeling tool.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the modeling tool uses a static diagram, a dynamic diagram, and an implementation diagram.

8. The system of claim 1 , wherein the cross-component mapping is a field level mapping or a message level mapping.

9. A method for generating a component application including a plurality of components the component application for facilitating interaction with a schema-defined service by a terminal device over a network, the method comprising:

receiving a definition document of a data source, and parsing metadata descriptors of a definition document to identify descriptors of a first set of components;

producing a modeling sequence and generating a model output;

identifying, in a computer processor, the modeling sequence in the modeling output including a model, the model having the first set of components having metadata descriptors expressed in a structured definition language for defining configuration information of the component application, the modeling sequence denoting relations between the first set of components;

generating a script based workflow component and updating a cross-component mapping based on the identified modeling sequence;

transforming the first set of components of the model into a first definition format to produce a component set; and

combining the script based workflow component and the updated component set to generate said component application.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the first set of components comprises: a data component, a presentation component and a message component.

11. The method of claim 10 , wherein the data component is configured to define data entities used by the component application, the presentation component is configured to define the appearance and behaviour of the component application, and the message component is configured for use by the component application to define messages between other applications on the device or between the component application and the schema-defined service.

12. The method according to claim 10 , further comprising analyzing the message component and the data component, and generating the cross-component mapping.

13. The method of claim 10 , further comprising generating the presentation component corresponding to manipulation associated with the data component and message component.

14. The method of claim 10 , further comprising converting a syntax and a format of the data component, the message component and the presentation component, and the cross-component mapping into a format suitable for importing by the modeling tool.

15. The method of claim 9 , further comprising using a static diagram, a dynamic diagram, and an implementation diagram.

16. The method of claim 9 , wherein the cross-component mapping is a field level mapping or a message level.

17. A computer readable medium storing instructions or statements for use in the execution in a computer of a method for generating a component application including a plurality of components the component application for facilitating interaction with a schema-defined service by a terminal device over a network, the method comprising:
