Enriched terephthalic acid composition
View Patent ↗A process is provided for producing an enriched carboxylic acid compositions produced by contacting composition comprising a carboxylic acid with an enrichment feed in an enrichment zone to form an enriched carboxylic acid composition. This invention also relates to a process and the resulting compositions for removing catalyst from a carboxylic acid composition to produce a post catalyst removal composition.
1. A terephthalic acid composition comprising:
(1) terephthalic acid in an amount greater than 50 percent by weight;
(2) (a) 4-carboxybenzaldehyde in an amount ranging from 1 ppm to 1000 ppm; or
(b) p-toluic acid in an amount ranging from 1 ppm to 1000 ppm; or
both (2) (a) and (2) (b); and
(3) at least two of the following:
(a) isophthalic acid in an amount ranging from 50 ppm to 49 wt %;
(b) trimellitic acid in an amount ranging from 140 ppm to 1000 ppm;
(c) 4,4′-dicarboxybiphenyl in an amount ranging from 25 ppm to 49 wt %;
(d) phthalic acid in an amount ranging from 20 ppm to 49 wt %;
(e) 4-hydroxybenzoic acid in an amount ranging from 3 ppm to 1000 ppm;
(f) 4-hydroxymethylbenzoic acid in an amount ranging from 40 ppm to 49 wt %; and
(4) benzoic acid in an amount ranging from 1 ppm to 3000 ppm.
2. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 1 wherein said isophthalic acid is in an amount ranging from at 50 ppm to 5 wt %.
3. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 2 wherein said trimellitic acid is in an amount ranging from 175 ppm to 750 ppm.
4. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 3 wherein said 4,4′-dicarboxybiphenyl is in an amount ranging from 25 ppm to 1 wt %.
5. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 4 wherein said phthalic acid is in an amount ranging from 20 ppm to 1 wt %.
6. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 5 wherein said 4-hydroxybenzoic acid is in an amount ranging from 20 ppm to 1000 ppm.
7. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 6 wherein said 4-hydroxymethylbenzoic acid is in an amount of ranging from 40 ppm to 1 wt %.
8. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 6 wherein said 4-hydroxymethylbenzoic acid is in an amount of ranging from 40 ppm to 2000 ppm.
9. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 7 wherein said benzoic acid is in an amount ranging from 60 ppm to 500 ppm.
10. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 1 wherein said isophthalic acid is in an amount ranging from at 50 ppm to 1 wt %.
11. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 10 wherein said trimellitic acid is in an amount ranging from 200 ppm to 500 ppm.
12. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 11 wherein said 4,4′-dicarboxybiphenyl is in an amount ranging from 25 ppm to 2000 ppm.
13. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 12 wherein said phthalic acid is in an amount ranging from 20 ppm to 2000 ppm.
14. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 13 wherein said 4-hydroxybenzoic acid is in an amount ranging from 150 ppm to 1000 ppm.
15. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 14 wherein said 4-hydroxymethylbenzoic acid is in an amount ranging from 40 ppm to 0.5 wt %.
16. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 15 wherein said benzoic acid is in an amount ranging from 60 ppm to 300 ppm.
17. A terephthalic acid composition comprising:
(1) terephthalic acid in an amount greater than 50 percent by weight;
(2) (a) 4-carboxybenzaldehyde in an amount ranging from 1 ppm to 1000 ppm; or
(b) p-toluic acid in an amount ranging from 1 ppm to 1000 ppm; or
both (2) (a) and (2) (b); and
(3) at least three of the following:
(a) isophthalic acid in an amount ranging from ranging from 50 ppm to 49 wt %;
(b) trimellitic acid in an amount ranging from 140 ppm to 1000 ppm;
(c) 4,4′-dicarboxybiphenyl in an amount ranging from 25 ppm to 49 wt %;
(d) phthalic acid in an amount ranging from 20 ppm to 49 wt %;
(e) 4-hydroxybenzoic acid in an amount ranging from 3 ppm to 1000 ppm;
(f) 4-hydroxymethylbenzoic acid in an amount ranging from 40 ppm to 49 wt %; and
(4) benzoic acid in an amount ranging from 1 ppm to 3000 ppm.
18. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 17 wherein said isophthalic acid is in an amount ranging from 50 ppm to 5 wt %.
19. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 18 wherein said trimellitic acid is in an amount ranging from 175 ppm to 750 ppm.
20. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 19 wherein said 4,4′-dicarboxybiphenyl is in an amount ranging from 25 ppm to 1 wt %.
21. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 20 wherein said phthalic acid is in an amount ranging from 20 ppm to 1 wt %.
22. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 21 wherein said 4-hydroxybenzoic acid is in an amount ranging from 20 ppm to 1000 ppm.
23. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 22 wherein said 4-hydroxymethylbenzoic acid is in an amount of ranging from 40 ppm to 1 wt %.
24. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 23 wherein said benzoic acid is in an amount ranging from 60 ppm to 500 ppm.
25. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 17 wherein said isophthalic acid is in an amount ranging from 50 ppm to 1 wt %.
26. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 25 wherein said trimellitic acid is in an amount ranging from 200 ppm to 500 ppm.
27. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 26 wherein said 4,4′-dicarboxybiphenyl is in an amount ranging from 25 ppm to 2000 ppm.
28. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 27 wherein said phthalic acid is in an amount ranging from 20 ppm to 2000 ppm.
29. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 28 wherein said 4-hydroxybenzoic acid is in an amount ranging from 150 ppm to 1000 ppm.
30. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 29 wherein said 4-hydroxymethylbenzoic acid is in an amount ranging from 40 ppm to 0.5 wt %.
31. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 30 wherein said benzoic acid is in an amount ranging from 60 ppm to 300 ppm.
32. A terephthalic acid composition comprising:
(1) terephthalic acid in an amount greater than 50 percent by weight;
(2) (a) 4-carboxybenzaldehyde in an amount ranging from 1 ppm to 1000 ppm; or
(b) p-toluic acid in an amount ranging from 1 ppm to 1000 ppm; or both (2) (a) and (2) (b); and
(3) at least two of the following:
(a) isophthalic acid in an amount of at least 50 ppm;
(b) trimellitic acid ranging from 140 ppm to 1000 ppm; and
(c) 4,4′-dicarboxybiphenyl in an amount ranging from 25 ppm to 49 wt %
(4) benzoic acid in an amount ranging from 1 ppm to 3000 ppm.
33. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 32 wherein said isophthalic acid is in an amount ranging from at 50 ppm to 5 wt %.
34. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 33 wherein said trimellitic acid in an amount ranging from 175 ppm to 750 ppm.
35. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 34 wherein said 4,4′-dicarboxybiphenyl is in an amount ranging from 25 ppm to 1 wt %.
36. A terephthalic acid composition comprising:
(1) terephthalic acid in an amount greater than 50 percent by weight;
(2) (a) 4-carboxybenzaldehyde in an amount ranging from 1 ppm to 1000 ppm; or
(b) p-toluic acid in an amount ranging from 1 ppm to 1000 ppm; or
both (2) (a) and (2) (b); and
(3) all of the following:
(a) isophthalic acid in an amount at least 50 ppm;
(b) trimellitic acid ranging from 140 ppm to 1000 ppm;
(c) 4,4′-dicarboxybiphenyl in an amount ranging from 25 ppm to 49 wt %
(4) benzoic acid in an amount ranging from 1 ppm to 3000 ppm.
37. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 36 wherein said isophthalic acid is in an amount ranging from 50 ppm to 5 wt %.
38. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 37 wherein said trimellitic acid is in an amount ranging from 175 ppm to 750 ppm.
39. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 38 wherein said 4,4′-dicarboxybiphenyl is in an amount ranging from 25 ppm to 1 wt %.
40. A terephthalic acid composition comprising:
(1) terephthalic acid in an amount greater than 50 percent by weight;
(2) (a) 4-carboxybenzaldehyde in an amount ranging from 1 ppm to 1000 ppm; or
(b) p-toluic acid in an amount ranging from 1 ppm to 1000 ppm; or
both (2)(a) and (2)(b); and
(3) at least five of the following:
(a) isophthalic acid in an amount ranging from 50 ppm to 49 wt %;
(b) trimellitic acid in an amount ranging from 140 ppm to 1000 ppm;
(c) 4,4′-dicarboxybiphenyl in an amount ranging from 25 ppm to 49 wt %;
(d) phthalic acid in an amount ranging from 20 ppm to 49 wt %;
(e) 4-hydroxybenzoic acid in an amount ranging from 3 ppm to 1000 ppm;
(f) 4-hydroxymethylbenzoic acid in an amount ranging from 40 ppm to 49 wt %; and
(4) benzoic acid in an amount ranging from 1 ppm to 3000 ppm.
41. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 40 wherein said isophthalic acid is in an amount ranging from 50 ppm to 5 wt %.
42. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 41 wherein said trimellitic acid is in an amount ranging from 175 ppm to 750 ppm.
43. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 42 wherein said 4,4′-dicarboxybiphenyl is in an amount ranging from 25 ppm to 1 wt %.
44. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 43 wherein said phthalic acid is in an amount ranging from 20 ppm to 1 wt %.
45. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 44 wherein said 4-hydroxybenzoic acid is in an amount ranging from 20 ppm to 1000 ppm.
46. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 45 wherein said 4-hydroxymethylbenzoic acid is in an amount ranging from 40 ppm to 1 wt %.
47. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 46 wherein said benzoic acid is in an amount ranging from 60 ppm to 500 ppm.
48. A terephthalic acid composition comprising:
(1) terephthalic acid in an amount greater than 50 percent by weight;
(2) (a) 4-carboxybenzaldehyde in an amount ranging from 1 ppm to 1000 ppm; or
(b) p-toluic acid in an amount ranging from 1 ppm to 1000 ppm; or
both (2) (a) and (2) (b); and
(3) all of the following:
(a) isophthalic acid in an amount ranging from 50 ppm to 49 wt %;
(b) trimellitic acid in an amount ranging from 140 ppm to 1000 ppm;
(c) 4,4′-dicarboxybiphenyl in an amount ranging from 25 ppm to 49 wt %;
(d) phthalic acid is in an amount ranging from 20 ppm to 49 wt %;
(e) 4-hydroxybenzoic acid in an amount ranging from 3 ppm to 1000 ppm;
(f) 4-hydroxymethylbenzoic acid in an amount ranging from 40 ppm to 49 wt %; and
(4) benzoic acid in an amount ranging from 1 ppm to 3000 ppm.
49. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 48 wherein said isophthalic acid is in an amount ranging from 50 ppm to 5 wt %.
50. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 49 wherein said trimellitic acid is in an amount ranging from 175 ppm to 750 ppm.
51. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 50 wherein said 4,4′-dicarboxybiphenyl is in an amount ranging from 25 ppm to 1 wt %.
52. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 51 wherein said phthalic acid is in an amount ranging from 20 ppm to 1 wt %.
53. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 52 wherein said 4-hydroxybenzoic acid is in an amount ranging from 20 ppm to 1000 ppm.
54. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 53 wherein said 4-hydroxymethylbenzoic acid is in an amount ranging from 40 ppm to 1 wt %.
55. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 54 wherein said benzoic acid is in an amount ranging from 60 ppm to 500 ppm.
56. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 48 wherein said isophthalic acid is in an amount ranging from at 50 ppm to 1 wt %.
57. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 56 wherein said trimellitic acid is in an amount ranging from 200 ppm to 500 ppm.
58. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 57 wherein said 4,4′-dicarboxybiphenyl is in an amount ranging from 25 ppm to 2000 ppm.
59. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 58 wherein said phthalic acid is in an amount ranging from 20 ppm to 2000 ppm.
60. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 59 wherein said 4-hydroxybenzoic acid is in an amount ranging from 150 ppm to 1000 ppm.
61. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 60 wherein said 4-hydroxymethylbenzoic acid is in an amount of ranging from 40 ppm to 0.5 wt %.
62. A terephthalic acid composition according to claim 61 wherein said benzoic acid is in an amount ranging from 60 ppm to 300 ppm.
