Abstract

A flashlight having a light-emitting diode light source with first and second leads extending therefrom, a power source, a power source frame enclosing at least a portion of the power source; a housing containing the light source and power source, a switch located adjacent the power source and operable to close a circuit including the light source and the power source, and wherein one or all of the following may be included 1) a keyring extension extending from a power source frame or the housing with the keyring extension having an opening whereby an article can be attached to the keyring extension and includes a keyring lock wherein upon exerting a force against the keyring lock, the keyring lock is opened to permit the article to be attached to the keyring extension; 2) the housing is comprised of translucent material; and 3) the housing includes at least one side cover which is not integral with the housing and the at least one side cover being selected from anodized aluminum, anodized metal, anodized metal which includes indicia, die struck metal, laser engraved metal, and a side cover having a separate medallion attached thereto.

Claims (51)

1. A flashlight comprising:

a light emitting diode having first and second leads extending therefrom;

a power source having opposite first and second sides;

a housing including at least one side cover disposed on a first side of the housing adjacent the power source that encloses the power source, the at least one side cover having a plurality of colors disposed on an outer surface thereof;

a switch operable to close a circuit of the flashlight including the light emitting diode and the power source.

2. The flashlight as in claim 1 wherein the at least one side cover further comprises a pair of side covers disposed adjacent the power source on opposing sides of the power source.

3. The flashlight as in claim 2 wherein the pair of opposing sides in combination with the housing of the flashlight further comprise a generally flattened shape in cross section that generally parallels a flattened cross-section of the power source in an elongated direction of the flashlight.

4. The flashlight as in claim 2 further comprising a plurality of colors disposed on both side covers of the pair of side covers.

5. The flashlight as in claim 4 wherein the plurality of colors further comprise engraving or imprinting on the side cover.

6. The flashlight as in claim 5 wherein the side cover further comprises anodized aluminum.

7. The flashlight as in claim 2 wherein the side covers further comprise surface indicia.

8. The flashlight as in claim 7 wherein the surface indicia further comprises laser engraving.

9. The flashlight as in claim 7 wherein the surface indicia further comprises silk screening.

10. The flashlight as in claim 7 wherein the surface indicia further comprises inking.

11. The flashlight as in claim 2 wherein the surface indicia further comprises pad printing.

12. The flashlight as in claim 2 wherein the surface indicia further comprises a marking.

13. A flashlight comprising:

a light emitting diode;

a power source;

a power source frame adapted to receive the power source;

a side cover enclosing at least a portion of the light source, the power source, and the power source frame;

a plurality of colors disposed on at least one side cover of the pair of side covers; and a switch located adjacent the power source and operable to close a circuit of the flashlight including the light source and the power source.

14. The flashlight as in claim 13 wherein the side cover further comprises a pair of side covers disposed on opposing sides of the power source frame and that together enclose at least a portion of the light source, the power source, and the power source frame.

15. The flashlight as in claim 14 wherein the pair of opposing sides in combination with the housing of the flashlight farther comprise a generally flattened shape in cross section that generally parallels a flattened cross-section of the power source in an elongated direction of the flashlight.

16. The flashlight as in claim 14 further comprising a plurality of colors disposed on both side covers of the pair of side covers.

17. The flashlight as in claim 16 wherein the plurality of colors further comprise engraving or imprinting on the side cover.

18. The flashlight as in claim 13 wherein the side cover further comprises anodized aluminum.

19. The flashlight as in claim 13 wherein the side covers further comprise surface indicia.

20. The flashlight as in claim 19 wherein the surface indicia further comprises laser engraving.

21. The flashlight as in claim 19 wherein the surface indicia further comprises silk screening.

22. The flashlight as in claim 19 wherein the surface indicia further comprises inking.

23. The flashlight as in claim 19 wherein the surface indicia further comprises pad printing.

24. The flashlight as in claim 19 wherein the surface indicia further comprises a marking.

25. A flashlight comprising:

a light emitting diode having first and second leads extending therefrom;

a disk-shaped power source having a first and second sides, the second side being opposite the first;

a housing enclosing the leads of the light emitting diode and the power source;

a switch located adjacent the power source and operable to close a circuit of the flashlight including the light emitting diode and the power source;

wherein said housing further comprises a pair of generally flat side covers disposed on opposing sides of the flashlight in a mutually parallel relationship with each other and with the first and second sides of the power source; and

wherein at least one side cover of the pair of side covers further comprises a plurality of colors disposed adjacent an outer surface of the side cover.

26. A flashlight comprising:

a light emitting diode;

a power source;

a side cover enclosing at least a portion of the light source, the power source;

a body enclosing at least a portion of the side cover;

a plurality of colors disposed on the side cover; and

a switch located adjacent the power source and operable to close a circuit of the flashlight including the light source and the power source.

27. The flashlight as in claim 26 wherein the side cover further comprises a pair of side covers disposed on opposing sides of the body and that together enclose at least a portion of the light source and the power source.

28. The flashlight as in claim 27 wherein the pair of opposing sides in combination with the body of the flashlight further comprise a generally flattened shape in cross section that generally parallels a flattened cross-section of the power source in an elongated direction of the flashlight.

29. The flashlight as in claim 27 further comprising a plurality of colors disposed on both side covers of the pair of side covers.

30. The flashlight as in claim 29 wherein the plurality of colors further comprise engraving or imprinting on the side cover.
