Abstract

In embodiments of the present invention improved capabilities are described for mobile search substring query entry completion, wherein complete search terms are presented to a user in response to a search query that is not a fully formed query.

Claims (37)

1 . A method of mobile search substring query entry completion comprising:

receiving a search query from a mobile communication facility;

determining that such search query is not a fully formed query;

generating a list of search query suggestions that relate to the substring query;

ordering the list based on at least one factor; and

presenting the search query suggestions to the mobile communication facility for selection by the user.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the mobile communication facility is a phone.

6 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the search query is associated with a query entry field.

7 . The method of claim 6 , wherein the query entry field is a name field.

16 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the search query derives from a browser based (WAP) interaction.

17 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the search query derives from a client application based interaction.

18 . The method of claim 17 , wherein the client application based interaction is a BREW application.

19 . The method of claim 17 , wherein client application based interaction is a Java application.

20 . The method of claim 1 , wherein ordering is based at least in part on search query popularity.

21 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the ordering is based at least in part on information relating to the mobile communication facility.

22 . The method of claim 21 , wherein the information relating to a mobile communication facility is a user characteristic.

25 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the information relating to a mobile communication facility is a user transaction.

26 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the information relating to a mobile communication facility is a geographic location.

27 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the information relating to a mobile communication facility is a user device.

28 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the information relating to a mobile communication facility is a time.

29 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the information relating to a mobile communication facility is a mobile communication facility characteristic.

34 . A system of mobile search substring query entry completion comprising:

a receiving facility adapted to receive a search query from a mobile communication facility;

a query analysis facility adapted to determine that such search query is not a fully formed query;

a generating facility adapted to generate a list of search query suggestions that relate to the substring query;

an ordering facility adapted to order the list based on at least one factor; and

a presentation facility adapted to present the search query suggestions to the mobile communication facility for selection by the user.
