Abstract

A golf ball which comprises a spherical core and a cover, wherein the cover has a nominal thickness of 0.1 mm to 1.2 mm. Dimples are formed on the surface of the cover and concave portions are formed on the surface of the core, the position of the concave portions corresponding to that of the dimples. The golf ball is obtained by forming the core by means of a mold having a large number of projections provided on a cavity surface thereof. By the projections, the concave portion is formed. When the cover is to be formed, the position of the core is determined in such a manner that the projections for forming the dimple correspond to the concave portions.

Claims (17)

1. A golf ball comprising

a core

a cover disposed on the surface of the core,

said core being provided with concave dimples on its outer surface and said cover being provided with concave dimples on its outer surface, said concave dimples on the outer surface of the core being directly underneath and aligned with the concave dimples on the cover surrounding the core, wherein the ratio of the number of dimples in the cover having corresponding and aligned dimples in the core to the total number of dimples in the cover is at least 60%.

2. The golf ball of claim 1 , wherein the cover has a nominal thickness of 0.1 mm to 1.2 mm.

3. The golf ball to claim 1 , wherein the cover has a thickness of 0.3 mm to 1.2 mm.

4. The golf ball according to claim 1 , wherein the cover has a thickness of 0.3 mm to 1.0 mm.

5. The golf ball according to claim 1 , wherein the dimples have a shape which is circular, non circular, or both circular and non-circular.

6. The golf ball according to claim 1 , wherein the core comprises more than one layer.

7. The golf ball of claim 1 , wherein the dimples are circular and/or non-circular.

8. The golf ball of claim 1 , wherein circular and non-circular dimples are provided together.

9. The golf ball of claim 7 , wherein when non-circular dimples are provided, a non-circular concave portion is provided thereunder.

10. The golf ball of claim 1 , wherein a paint layer and a mark layer are provided on the outside of the cover.

11. The golf ball of claim 1 , Wherein the core has a single or multiple layer structure.

12. The golf ball of claim 1 , wherein an intermediate layer is provided between the core and the cover, said intermediate layer corresponding to the core.

13. The golf ball of claim 1 , wherein the ratio of the number of dimples in the cover having corresponding and, aligned dimples in the core, to the total number of dimples in the cover is at least 80%.

14. The golf ball of claim 1 , wherein the ratio of the number of dimples in the cover having corresponding and aligned dimples in the core, to the total number of dimples in the cover is 100%.
