High inherent viscosity polymers and fibers therefrom
View Patent ↗Disclosed are processes for preparing polyareneazole polymers characterized as providing polymer solutions having an inherent viscosity of at least about 22 dl/g at 30° C. at a polymer concentration of 0.05 g/dl in methane sulfonic acid. Polyareneazoles, filaments and yarns are also disclosed.
1. A poly(1,4-(2,5-dihydroxy)phenylene-2,6-pyrido[2,3-d:5,6-d′]bisimidazole) polymer, characterized as providing a polymer solution having an inherent viscosity of at least about 22 dl/g at 30° C. at a polymer concentration of 0.05 g/dl in methane sulfonic acid.
2. A filament comprising the polymer of claim 1 .
3. A mutifilament yarn comprising the filament of claim 2 .
4. The multifilament yarn of claim 3 characterized as having a yarn tenacity of at least about 24 gpd.
5. The polymer of claim 1 wherein the inherent viscosity is at least about 25 dl/g.
6. A filament comprising the polymer of claim 5 .
7. A mutifilament yarn comprising the filament of claim 6 .
8. The multifilament yarn of claim 7 characterized as having a yarn tenacity of at least about 24 gpd.
9. The polymer of claim 5 wherein the inherent viscosity is at least about 28 dl/g.
10. A filament comprising the polymer of claim 9 .
11. A mutifilament yarn comprising the filament of claim 10 .
12. The multifilament yarn of claim 11 characterized as having a yarn tenacity of at least about 24 gpd.
13. The polymer of claim 9 wherein the inherent viscosity is at least about 30 dl/g.
14. A filament comprising the polymer of claim 13 .
15. A mutifilament yarn comprising the filament of claim 14 .
16. The multifilament yarn of claim 15 characterized as having a yarn tenacity of at least about 24 gpd.
