Abstract

An implantable intraluminal device includes a multilayer composite tubular device supporting one or more stents between the layer thereof. A first porous elongate tube includes an exterior surface and an interior luminal surface. A radially expandable member is disposed about the exterior surface of the first tube. A second porous elongate tube is disposed concentrically over the first tube and is secured thereto so that the radially expandable member is longitudinally immobilized therebetween.

Claims (20)

1. A composite stent-graft device comprising:

a multi-layer graft including an elongate outer tube concentrically disposed over an inner tube;

a plurality of stents each comprising a single strand of material in the form of a ring, each stent expandable in a radial direction;

the stents supported in spaced apart relationship between said tubes, each of said stents formed of a single segment of material having only two opposed stent ends, the stent ends in overlapping movable engagement with each other, each opposed stent end being of a reduced thickness, as measured in the radial direction, in comparison to the remainder of the stent, the opposed stent ends each having ratchet teeth thereon for mutual engagement for providing finite adjustability therebetween, each of said stents having a longitudinal expanse;

each of said stents being expandable between a radially contracted position and a radially expanded condition without substantial change in said longitudinal expanse of each of said stents.

2. A composite stent-graft device according to claim 1 , wherein said stent is formed in a generally circular configuration with said first and second stent ends being in axial alignment to each other.

3. A composite stent-graft according to claim 1 , wherein each said stent is a bio-compatible metal.

4. A composite stent-graft according to claim 3 , wherein said bio-compatible metal is selected from the group consisting of stainless steel, platinum, gold, nitinol, tantalum and alloys thereof.

5. A composite stent-graft device according to claim 1 , wherein said first and second tubes are bio-compatible.

6. A composite stent-graft device according to claim 5 , wherein said first and second tubes are expanded polytetrafluoroethylene.

7. A composite stent-graft device comprising:

a multi-layer graft including an elongate outer tube concentrically disposed over an inner tube;

a plurality of radially expandable wire stents each comprising a single strand of material in the form of a ring, said stents being supported in spaced apart relationship between said tubes, each of said stents having a longitudinal expanse and opposed first and second stent ends in overlapping movable engagement with each other, said second stent end including an elongate open-ended channel configured to contain the first stent end when the first stent end is inserted therein, said first stent end and said second stent end being in axial alignment when said first stent end is inserted in said second stent end, said first stent end insertable into said open channel for movement therein upon radial expansion of said stent, wherein the first end is configured to telescope into the elongate open-ended channel;

each of said stents being expandable between a radially contracted position and a radially expanded condition without substantial change in said longitudinal expanse of each of said stents.

8. A composite stent-graft according to claim 7 , wherein each said stent comprises a bio-compatible metal.

9. A composite stent-graft device according to claim 7 , wherein said first and second tubes are bio-compatible.

10. A composite stent-graft device comprising:

a multi-layer graft including an elongate outer tube concentrically disposed over an inner tube;

a plurality of radially expandable wire stents supported in spaced apart relationship between the tubes, each of the stents consisting of a single segment of material having a longitudinal expanse, a circumferential expanse, and opposed first and second stent ends in overlapping movable engagement with each other, the second stent end including an elongate open-ended channel extending circumferentially along a portion of the circumferential expanse, the elongate open-ended channel being surrounded by a channel wall, the first stent end insertable into the open channel for movement therein upon radial expansion of the stent, wherein the first stent end is configured to telescope into the elongate open-ended channel and wherein the first stent end is surrounded by the channel wall when inserted into the channel;

each of the stents being expandable between a radially contracted position and a radially expanded condition.
