Linked arylamine polymers
View Patent ↗A polymer of the following formula wherein Ar is aryl or heteroaryl; X represents CH 2 , sulfur, oxygen, selenium, NR′, or SiR″ 2 wherein R′ and R″ are each a suitable hydrocarbon; m represents the number of X substituents; and n represents the number of the repeating units.
1. A homopolymer of the following formula
wherein Ar is aryl or heteroaryl; X represents CH 2 , sulfur, oxygen, selenium, NR′, or SiR″ 2 wherein R′ and R″ are each aryl or alkyl having from 1 to 18 carbon atoms; m represents the number of X substituents and is from 1 to about 5; and n represents the number of the repeating units, wherein n is from about 20 to about 5,000.
2. A homopolymer in accordance with claim 1 wherein aryl contains from about 6 to about 48 carbon atoms.
3. A homopolymer in accordance with claim 1 wherein aryl contains from about 6 to about 36 carbon atoms.
4. A homopolymer in accordance with claim 1 wherein Ar is phenyl, biphenyl, naphthyl, or anthryl, optionally substituted by at least one group selected from a hydrocarbon with from 1 to about 36 carbon atoms, a hetero containing group with one to about 36 carbon atoms, or a halogen.
5. A homopolymer in accordance with claim 1 wherein Ar is phenyl, biphenyl, naphthyl, or anthryl, optionally substituted by at least one alkyl group, wherein the alkyl group is methyl, ethyl, propyl, butyl, pentyl, hexyl, heptyl, octyl, nonyl, decyl, undecyl, dodecyl, tridecyl, tetradecyl, pentadecyl, heptadecyl, or octadecyl.

A homopolymer in accordance with claim 1 wherein Ar is phenyl, biphenyl, naphthyl, or anthryl, optionally substituted with at least one aryl group, wherein the aryl group is phenyl, methylphenyl, ethylphenyl, propylphenyl, butylphenyl, pentylphenyl, hexylphenyl, heptylphenyl, octylphenyl, nonylphenyl, decylphenyl, undecylphenyl, dodecylphenyl, tridecylphenyl, tetradecylphenyl, pentadecylphenyl, heptadecylphenyl, or octadecylphenyl.

A homopolymer in accordance with claim 1 wherein Ar is phenyl, biphenyl, naphthyl, or anthryl, optionally substituted by at least one heteroatom containing group, and wherein the heteroatom containing group is nitro, cyano, alkoxy with from 1 to about 18 carbon atoms, trialkylsilyl with from about 3 to about 36 carbon atoms, and triarylsilyl with from about 18 to about 36 carbon atoms.
8. A homopolymer in accordance with claim 1 wherein Ar is phenyl, biphenyl, naphthyl, or anthryl, substituted by one, two, or more halogens, and the halogen is fluorine, chlorine, bromine, or iodine.

A homopolymer in accordance with claim 1 wherein said Ar is thienyl, furanyl, pyridinyl, oxazoyl, pyrroyl, triazinyl, imidazoyl, pyrimidinyl, pyrazinyl, oxadiazoyl, pyrazoyl, triazoyl, thiazoyl, thiadiazoyl, quinolinyl, quinazolinyl, naphthyridinyl, or carbazoyl, optionally substituted by at least one group of a hydrocarbon with 1 to about 36 carbon atoms, a hetero containing group with zero to about 36 carbon atoms, or a halogen.

A homopolymer in accordance with claim 1 wherein Ar is thienyl, furanyl, pyridinyl, oxazoyl, pyrroyl, triazinyl, imidazoyl, pyrimidinyl, pyrazinyl, oxadiazoyl, pyrazoyl, triazoyl, thiazoyl, thiadiazoyl, quinolinyl, quinazolinyl, naphthyridinyl, or carbazoyl, optionally substituted by at least one, two, or more hydrocarbon groups, and wherein the hydrocarbon is an alkyl of methyl, ethyl, propyl, butyl, pentyl, hexyl, heptyl, octyl, nonyl, decyl, undecyl, dodecyl, tridecyl, tetradecyl, pentadecyl, heptadecyl, or octadecyl.

A homopolymer in accordance with claim 1 wherein Ar is thienyl, furanyl, pyridinyl, oxazoyl, pyrroyl, triazinyl, imidazoyl, pyrimidinyl, pyrazinyl, oxadiazoyl, pyrazoyl, triazoyl, thiazoyl, thiadiazoyl, quinolinyl, quinazolinyl, naphthyridinyl, or carbazoyl, substituted by at least one hydrocarbon group, and wherein the hydrocarbon group is phenyl, methylpheyl (tolyl), ethylphenyl, propylphenyl, butylphenyl, pentylphenyl, hexylphenyl, heptylphenyl, octylphenyl, nonylphenyl, decylphenyl, undecylphenyl, dodecylphenyl, tridecylphenyl, tetradecylphenyl, pentadecylphenyl, heptadecylphenyl, or octadecylphenyl.
12. A homopolymer in accordance with claim 1 wherein n is from about 20 to about 100.
13. A homopolymer in accordance with claim 1 wherein X is sulfur.
14. A homopolymer in accordance with claim 1 and as represented by the following formula:
wherein R is aryl, methyl, ethyl, propyl, butyl, pentyl, hexyl, heptyl, octyl, nonyl, decyl, undecyl, dodecyl, tridecyl, tetradecyl, pentadecyl, hexadecyl, heptadecyl, or octadecyl.
15. A homopolymer in accordance with claim 14 wherein R and R′ are independently aryl, methyl, ethyl, propyl, butyl, pentyl, hexyl, heptyl, octyl, nonyl, decyl, undecyl, dodecyl, tridecyl, tetradecyl, pentadecyl, hexadecyl, heptadecyl, or octadecyl; and wherein n is the number of repeating units in the homopolymer of from about 20 to about 100.
16. A homopolymer in accordance with claim 14 wherein R is methyl, ethyl, propyl, butyl, pentyl, hexyl, heptyl, octyl, nonyl, decyl, undecyl, dodecyl, tridecyl, tetradecyl, pentadecyl, hexadecyl, heptadecyl, or octadecyl; and wherein n is from about 20 to about 100.
17. The arylamine homopolymer poly(10-(4-octylphenyl) phenothiazine) having from about 20 to about 5,000 repeating units.
