Abstract

A method for designing a system LSI includes the steps of dividing an algorithmic description (D 1 ) of the system LSI into software and hardware groups, synthesizing the hardware group by behavior synthesis to create an RTL description ((D 5 ) and a simulation description (D 6 ), examining the circuit scale of the system LSI based on the RTL description (D 5 ), and simulating the system LSI based on the simulation description (D 6 ) and a software description.

Claims (17)

1. A designing system for designing a system LSI comprising:

a function dividing section for receiving an input function described in an algorithmic description, to divide said input function into a hardware section and a software section based on a circuit scale and a processing time length, and to divide said hardware section into a basic-instruction processor description describing a function of a basic-instruction processor in an algorithmic description, a dedicated-instruction processor section describing a function of a dedicated-instruction processor in an algorithmic description, and a communication interface description describing in an algorithmic description a function of a communication interface connecting together said basic-instruction processor and said dedicated-instruction processor; and

a behavior synthesizing section for synthesizing using a behavior synthesis based on said basic-instruction description, dedicated-instruction description and communication interface description, to output RTL description data and simulation description data.

2. The designing system according to claim 1 , further comprising a resource-scale examining section for comparing a circuit scale detected based on said RTL description data against a predetermined circuit scale, and indicating said function dividing section to re-divide said input function if said detected circuit scale exceeds said predetermined circuit scale.

3. The designing system according to claim 1 , further comprising a processing-performance examining section for comparing a processing performance detected based on said simulation description data against a predetermined processing time length, and indicating said function dividing section to re-divide said input function if said detected processing performance indicates a processing time length exceeding said predetermined processing time length.

4. A method for designing a system LSI comprising the steps of:

dividing an input function described in an algorithmic description into a hardware section and a software section based on a circuit scale and a processing time length;

dividing said hardware section into a basic-instruction processor description describing a function of a basic-instruction processor in an algorithmic description, a dedicated-instruction processor section describing a function of a dedicated-instruction processor in an algorithmic description, and a communication interface description describing in an algorithmic description a function of a communication interface connecting together said basic-instruction processor and said dedicated-instruction processor; and

synthesizing using a behavior synthesis based on said basic-instruction description, dedicated-instruction description and communication interface description, to output RTL description data and simulation description data.

5. The method according to claim 4 , further comprising the steps of comparing a circuit scale detected based on said RTL description data against a predetermined circuit scale, and returning to said input function dividing step to redivide said input function if said detected circuit scale exceeds said predetermined circuit scale.

6. The method according to claim 5 , wherein said basic-instruction processor description and said dedicated-instruction processor description are such that each of said basic-instruction processor and said dedicated-instruction processor has a calculation resource, and shares another calculation resource with the other of said basic-instruction processor and said dedicated-instruction processor via said communication interface.

7. The method according to claim 5 , further comprising the steps of compiling application-program description data describing a function of said software section among a function of said system LSI to obtain machine-language instruction set data, and verifying a design of said machine-language instruction set data and said simulation description data by using a simulator.

8. The method according to claim 5 , wherein:

said basic-instruction processor description describes functions of said basic-instruction processor operating multi-purpose calculation processings including ADD, SUB, MOV, JMP and SET; and

said dedicated-instruction processor description describes a function of said dedicated-instruction processor for executing a dedicated instruction added for a specific application.

9. The method according to claim 8 , wherein said dedicated-instruction processor description describes a function of said dedicated-instruction processor, said function using at least one of resources used in said multi-purpose processings of said basic-instruction processor including ADD, SUB, MOV, JMP and SET.

10. The method according to claim 4 , further comprising the steps of comparing a processing performance detected based on said simulation description data against a predetermined processing time length, and returning to said input function dividing step to re-divide said input function if said detected processing performance indicates a processing time length exceeding said predetermined processing time length.
