Fused polycyclic compounds having a heterocyclic ring(s) and pharmaceutical use thereof
The present invention provides a fused polycyclic compound of the following formula, analogues thereof and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof; and agents for increasing the sugar-transporting capacity, hypoglycemic agents and pharmaceutical compositions containing the above compounds. This fused polycyclic compound has high medicinal properties and few side-effects, and a therapeutic effect on diabetes. wherein R represents an alkoxy group, R′ represents an oxazolylpropionyl group or a thiazolylpropionyl group, and R″ represent a hydrogen atom.

21. A method for increasing the sugar-transporting capacity in a subject in need thereof comprising administering an effective amount of the fused polycyclic compound or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof according to claim 1 .
22. A method for treating hypoglycemia in a subject in need thereof comprising administering an effective amount of the fused polycyclic compound or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof according to claim 1 .

A method for treating diabetes, diabetic peripheral neuropathy, diabetic nephropathy, diabetic retinopathy, diabetic macroangiopathy, impaired glucose tolerance, or obesity in a subject in need thereof comprising administering an effective amount of the fused polycyclic compound or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof according to claim 1 .
