Abstract

A medical device enables effective magnetic resonance imaging inside a lumen of a medical device. The medical device includes a plurality of conductive traces formed on a substrate. The conductive traces form an inductive-capacitance circuit or a resistive-inductive-capacitance circuit. The inductive-capacitance circuit or resistive-inductive-capacitance circuit is tuned to a frequency associated with magnetic resonance imaging, an operating frequency associated with a magnetic resonance imaging scanner, a harmonic of an operating frequency associated with a magnetic resonance imaging scanner, or a sub-harmonic of an operating frequency associated with a magnetic resonance imaging scanner.

Claims (22)

1 . A device for enabling effective magnetic resonance imaging inside a lumen of a medical device, comprising:

a stent;

an expandable substantially cylindrical substrate surrounding a portion of said stent, said expandable substantially cylindrical substrate having an axial closed end and an axial open end, said axial closed end being within said axial open end;

a dielectric material formed on a portion of said substantially cylindrical substrate; and

a plurality of conductive traces formed on said dielectric material and said expandable substantially cylindrical substrate, said conductive traces forming a variable inductive-capacitance circuit.

2 . The device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein said conductive traces form a variable resistive-inductive-capacitance circuit.

3 . The device as claimed in claim 1 , further comprising a discrete capacitor operatively connected to said traces and attached to said expandable substantially cylindrical substrate.

4 . The device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein said expandable substantially cylindrical substrate is biodegradable.

5 . The device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein said substrate is thermally degradable.

6 . The device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein said substrate is chemically degradable.

7 . The device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein said substrate is optically degradable.

8 . The device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein said substrate is degradable.

9 . The device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein said dielectric material is formed at said axial closed end of said expandable substantially cylindrical substrate.

10 . The device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein said dielectric material is formed at said axial open end of said expandable substantially cylindrical substrate.

11 . The device as claimed in claim 9 , wherein said dielectric material, portions of said traces formed on said dielectric material, portions of said traces formed on said axial open end of said expandable substantially cylindrical substrate forming a variable capacitor.

12 . The device as claimed in claim 10 , wherein said dielectric material, portions of said traces formed on said dielectric material, portions of said traces formed on said axial closed end of said expandable substantially cylindrical substrate forming a variable capacitor.

13 . The device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein said axial closed end and said axial open end having a relative movement therebetween such that a circumference of said expandable substantially cylindrical substrate is variable.

14 . The device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein said axial open end includes a member to prevent said axial closed end from being without said axial open end.

15 . The device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein said conductive traces are expandable without damage thereto.

16 . The device as claimed in claim 1 , wherein said conductive traces form a pattern.

17 . The device as claimed in claim 16 , wherein said pattern of conductive traces is expandable.

18 . The device as claimed in claim 16 , wherein said pattern of conductive traces is expandable without damage thereto.
