Abstract

Systems and methods for a design and runtime environment provide graphical elements that may be arranged to specify test logic for an automated test procedure.

Claims (35)

1 . A method comprising:

providing a set of test logic icons, each of the test logic icons having at least an entry connector and an exit connector, the test logic icons representing a test logic step;

providing a user interface to select at least a first test logic icon from the set of test logic icons for inclusion in a set of one or more test logic icons representing an automated test procedure; and

displaying the set of one or more test logic icons representing the automated test procedure.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the user interface is operable to select a second test logic icon from the set of test logic icons for inclusion in the set of one or more test logic icons representing the automated test procedure.

3 . The method of claim 2 , further comprising receiving a selection of a location in the set of one or more test logic icons indicating where the second test logic icon is to be inserted.

4 . The method of claim 3 , wherein the location comprises an exit connector.

5 . The method of claim 3 , wherein the location comprises an entry connector.

6 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising generating machine executable code for the automated test procedure.

7 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the test logic icons represent test logic steps including a goto test verb step, a goto screen step, an expression evaluation step, a loop control step, a goto platform step, a log information step, a conditional expression evaluation step, a data access step, a verify screen step, or a read data step.

8 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising receiving device stimulus for inclusion in the automated test procedure.

9 . The method of claim 8 , wherein the device stimulus is recorded as a test logic icon in the automated test procedure.

10 . The method of claim 8 , further comprising displaying a virtual device representing a device under test and wherein the stimulus is received from the virtual device.

11 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the automated test procedure comprises a test verb.

12 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the automated test procedure comprises a test case.

13 . The method of claim 1 , further comprising displaying a graphical indication of test logic icons that share a context.

14 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the context includes test logic icons that represent code executed while on a screen of the device under test.

15 . The method of claim 13 , wherein the context includes test logic icons that represent code executed while within a platform role.

16 . A method comprising:

displaying a set of test logic icons representing test logic steps in an automated test procedure; and

providing a user interface operable to control the execution of the automated test procedure.

17 . The method of claim 16 , wherein the user interface includes an interface element specifying the automated test procedure is to run to completion;

18 . The method of claim 16 , wherein the user interface includes a user interface element which upon selection sets a debug mode for the automated test procedure.

19 . The method of claim 18 , further comprising displaying a user interface element which upon selection causes a single test logic step in the automated test procedure to be executed.

20 . The method of claim 18 , further comprising displaying a user interface element which upon selection causes a second automated test procedure to be displayed and a single test logic step in the second automated test procedure to be executed.

21 . The method of claim 16 , further comprising providing a graphical indicator of the current test logic step in the automated test procedure.

22 . A system comprising:

a test development environment;

at least one device under test communicably coupled to the test development environment.

a repository communicably coupled to the test development environment;

an automated test procedure module coupled to the test development environment and operable to store an automated test procedure in the repository and to display a set of one or more test logic icons representing an automated test procedure; and

a compiler operable to generate machine executable code for the automated test procedure;

wherein the automated test procedure includes test logic steps that provide stimulus to the device under test.

23 . The system of claim 22 , further comprising a virtual device module to display a representation of a device under test, the representation including a current screen of the device under test.

24 . The system of claim 23 , wherein the device under test is an emulated device.
