Abstract

Provided are low-irritation personal care compositions comprising a low-DP polymerized surfactants. Also provided are methods of making and using such compositions.

Claims (28)

1. A composition comprising a low-DP polymerized surfactant, said composition having a TEP value of about 3 or greater.

2. The composition of claim 1 , wherein said composition has a TEP value of about 3.5 or greater.

3. The composition of claim 1 , wherein said composition has a TEP value of at least about of 5 or greater.

4. The composition of claim 1 , wherein said composition has a CMID % of less than about 90%.

5. The composition of claim 1 , wherein said composition has a CMID % of less than about 50%.

6. The composition of claim 1 wherein said low-DP polymerized surfactant has a PMOD % of about 90% or less.

7. The composition of claim 1 wherein said low-DP polymerized surfactant has a PMOD % of about 80% or less.

8. The composition of claim 1 wherein said low-DP polymerized surfactant has a PMOD % of about 50% or less.

9. The composition of claim 1 wherein said low-DP polymerized surfactant comprises from about 10 to about 1000 amphiphilic repeat units on a weight average basis.

10. The composition of claim 1 wherein said low-DP polymerized surfactant comprises from about 20 to about 500 amphiphilic repeat units on a weight average basis.

11. The composition of claim 1 wherein said low-DP polymerized surfactant includes amphiphilic repeat units having a hydrophobe comprising at least 7 carbon atoms.

12. The composition of claim 1 wherein said low-DP polymerized surfactant comprises a polymer having a backbone that substantially comprises a plurality of carbon-carbon bonds, wherein said polymer is selected from the group consisting of EUACs, EUAHs, and PPDAs.

13. The composition of claim 12 wherein said low-DP polymerized surfactant is a PPDA polymer.

14. The composition of claim 13 wherein said low-DP polymerized surfactant is selected from the group consisting of octadecene/maleic anhydride copolymers, tetradecene/maleic anhydride copolymers, and derivatives thereof.

15. The composition of claim 12 wherein said low-DP polymerized surfactant is a EUAC or EUAH polymer.

16. The composition of claim 15 wherein said low-DP polymerized surfactant is selected from the group consisting of Poly (sodium allyldodecylsulfosuccinate), Poly(acrylic acid co-2-acrylamideododecylsulfonic acid), and Poly (sodium allyldodecyl sulfosuccinate-co-acrylic acid).

17. The composition of claim 1 wherein said low-DP polymerized surfactant comprises a polymer having a backbone that substantially comprises a plurality of carbon-heteroatom bonds.

18. The composition of claim 17 wherein said low-DP polymerized surfactant is a polysaccharide.

19. The composition of claim 1 , wherein said composition further comprises at least one monomeric surfactant.

20. The composition of claim 1 , wherein said composition further comprises at least one surfactant selected from the group consisting of anionic surfactants, amphoteric surfactants, and combinations of two or more thereof.

21. The composition of claim 20 , wherein said at least one surfactant comprises a betaine.

22. A personal care product comprising a composition of claim 1 .

23. The personal care product of claim 22 wherein such product is a cleanser.

24. The personal care product of claim 23 , wherein said product is a cleanser for skin, hair, and/or the vaginal region.

25. A composition comprising a low-DP polymerized surfactant selected from the group consisting of carbon-carbon bond EUAC, EUAH, and PPDA polymers, said polymerized surfactant having a PMOD % of about 90% or less and from about 7 to about 2,000 amphiphilic repeat units, said composition having a CMID % of less than about 90% and a TEP of about 3.5 or greater.

26. The composition of claim 25 having a TEP of about 4 or greater.

27. The personal care composition of claim 26 further comprising a surfactant selected from the group consisting of anionic surfactants, amphoteric surfactants, and combinations of two or more thereof.

28. The composition of claim 17 wherein said low-DP polymerized surfactant is an SGA.
