Redox polymers for use in electrochemical-based sensors
View Patent ↗A redox polymer for use in an electrochemical-based sensor includes a hydrophobic polymer backbone (e.g., a hydrophobic poly(methyl methacrylate) polymer backbone) and at least one hydrophilic polymer arm (such as a hydrophilic oligo(N-vinylpyrrolidinone) polymer arm) attached to the hydrophobic polymer backbone. The redox polymer also includes a plurality of redox mediators (e.g., ferrocene-based redox mediators) attached to the at least one hydrophilic polymer arm.
1. A redox polymer for use in an electrochemical-based sensor, the redox polymer comprising:
a hydrophobic polymer backbone;
at least one pendant hydrophilic polymer arm attached at a single point to the hydrophobic polymer backbone; and
a plurality of redox mediators for facilitating electron transfer between at least one redox enzyme of the electrochemical-based sensor and at least one electrode of the electrochemical-based sensor, the plurality of redox mediators attached to the at least one pendant hydrophilic polymer arm,
wherein each of the at least one hydrophilic pendant polymer arms has a plurality of the redox mediators attached thereto.
2. The redox polymer of claim 1 , wherein the redox mediator is a ferrocene-based redox mediator.
3. The redox polymer of claim 1 , wherein there are a plurality of pendant hydrophilic arms attached to the hydrophobic backbone and there is, on average, a plurality of redox mediators attached to each of the pendant hydrophilic polymer arms.
