Liquid crystal display device
A liquid crystal display device includes a liquid crystal panel having a plurality of pixels disposed in a matrix format, a Y-selecting signal generating unit for selecting one or more pixel rows, an X-selecting signal generating unit for selecting one or more pixel columns, and a tone signal generating unit for generating a tone signal for applying the corresponding tone voltage to tone information of said display data onto each of the pixels.

2 . A display device to display display data, comprising:
a display panel having a plurality of pixels disposed in a matrix format;
a Y-circuit adapted to generate a Y-selecting signal to select one or more pixel rows of said plurality of pixels and to output said Y-selecting signals to said pixels; and
an X-circuit adapted to generate a tone signal according to the display data for each of said plurality of pixels and to output said tone signal to said plurality of pixels, wherein
ones of said plurality of pixels are rewritable, and when the ones of said plurality of pixels are rewritten, said X-circuit outputs the tone signal to said ones of said plurality of pixels without outputting the tone signal to remaining pixels other than said ones of said plurality of pixels and also outputs the tone signal to all of said plurality of pixels periodically.
3 . A display device according to claim 2 , wherein, even when said ones of said plurality of pixels are rewritten, said X-circuit outputs the tone signal to all of said
plurality of pixels periodically thereby to recharge electric charges to said plurality of pixels.
4 . A display device according to claim 2 , wherein, when said ones of said plurality of pixels are rewritten, said X-circuit outputs the tone signal to said ones of said plurality of pixels without outputting the tone signal to said remaining pixels other than said ones of said plurality of pixels, irrespective to the period with which said X-circuit outputs the tone signal to all of said plurality of pixels.

A display device according to claim 2 , wherein each of said pixels includes a memory or a capacitive element, and, when said ones of said plurality of pixels are rewritten, each of said remaining pixels displays the display data in accordance with the tone signal held in said memory or said capacitive element.
6 . A display device according to claim 2 , wherein said ones of said plurality of pixels being rewritten are pixels at which the display data change.
7 . A display device according to claim 2 , wherein, when said ones of said plurality of pixels are rewritten, said X-circuit outputs the tone signal to said ones of said plurality of pixels in accordance with addresses designated by an external device.
8 . A display device according to claim 2 , wherein each of said pixels is formed by a polysilicon TFT element.
9 . A display device according to claim 2 , wherein each of said pixels is adapted to be driven by a pulse signal according to the tone signal.
10 . A display device according to claim 9 , wherein each of said pixels includes:
a memory adapted to hold the tone signal;
a first conversion circuit adapted to generate said pulse signal with binary values that has a time width corresponding to the tone signal from said memory;
a second conversion circuit adapted to output either one of an alternative signal which changes periodically in accordance with a level of the pulse signal and a center signal having a level between a high level and a low level of the alternative signal; and
an electrode adapted to be driven by the signal from said second conversion circuit.
11 . A display device to display display data, comprising:
a display panel having a plurality of pixels disposed in a matrix format;
a Y-circuit adapted to generate a Y-selecting signal to select one or more pixel rows of said plurality of pixels and to output said Y-selecting signals to said pixels; and
an X-circuit adapted to generate a tone signal according to the display data for each of said plurality of pixels and to output said tone signal to said plurality of pixels, wherein
when a part of the display data of one screen changes, only ones of said plurality of pixels at which the display data change are rewritten, and all of said plurality of pixels are rewritten periodically irrespective of the rewriting of said only ones of said plurality of pixels at which the display data change.
12 . A display device to display display data, comprising:
a display panel having a plurality of pixels disposed in a matrix format;
a Y-circuit adapted to generate a Y-selecting signal to select one or more pixel rows of said plurality of pixels and to output said Y-selecting signals to said pixels; and
an X-circuit adapted to generate a tone signal according to the display data for each of said plurality of pixels and to output said tone signal to said plurality of pixels, wherein
said Y-circuit is adapted to generate said Y-selecting signal to turning on the one or more pixel rows of said plurality of pixels designated by Y-addresses in an Y-direction in accordance with an enable signal, and
said X-circuit is adapted to receive the display data corresponding to the one or more pixel rows of said plurality of pixels designated by said Y-addresses and to output a tone signal corresponding to the received display data to the one or more pixels designated by said Y-addresses.
13 . A display device according to claim 12 , wherein said Y-selecting signal is a signal which sets a voltage level of each of the one or more pixel rows of said plurality of pixels designated by said Y-addresses to an on-voltage level and sets a voltage level of each of remaining pixels other than said one or more pixels to a ground level.
14 . A display device according to claim 12 , wherein said Y-address is an address designated from an external device.
15 . A display device according to claim 12 , further comprising a controller adapted to receive the display data and an address from an external device, to output the display data, to output a part of the address as said Y-address, and to output said enable signal which changes in accordance with the display data thus outputted.
16 . A display device according to claim 12 , wherein each of said pixels includes a memory adapted to hold the tone signal.
17 . A display device according to claim 12 , wherein each of said pixels is formed by a polysilicon TFT element.
18 . A display device according to claim 12 , wherein each of said pixels is adapted to be driven by a pulse signal according to the tone signal.
19 . A display device according to claim 18 , wherein each of said pixels includes:
a memory adapted to hold the tone signal;
a first conversion circuit adapted to generate said pulse signal with binary values that has a time width corresponding to the tone signal from said memory;
a second conversion circuit adapted to output either one of an alternative signal which changes periodically in accordance with a level of the pulse signal and a center signal having a level between a high level and a low level of the alternative signal; and
an electrode adapted to be driven by the signal from said second conversion circuit.
20 . A display device for displaying display data, comprising:
a display panel having a plurality of pixels disposed in a matrix format;
a Y-circuit adapted to generate a Y-selecting signal to select one or more pixel rows of said plurality of pixels and to output said Y-selecting signals to said pixels; and
an X-circuit adapted to generate a tone signal according to the display data for each of said plurality of pixels and to output said tone signal to said plurality of pixels, wherein
only one or more pixel rows of said plurality of pixels designated by an address supplied from an external device can be rewritten.
