Abstract

A system and method providing a frame structure to received channel data sent over an air interface of a wireless communication system. The system and method may allow compensation for transmitting and receiving frequency variations, synchronization at the receiver, and provides a virtual signaling channel which may be used for system alarms and status. In one embodiment, the system uses bit stuffing, a frame preamble and a signaling preamble to transmit data at a high data rate in the ISM band.

Claims (26)

1. A deframer for wireless, multiple-channel signaling, comprising:

a clock generator to decode justification bits and virtual channel message bits from source-channel frames, each of which has a plurality of overhead bits, including at least one justification bit, and a plurality of data bits to convey information of only one source channel;

a first shift register capable of storing received serial bits of the source-channel frames that include the virtual channel message bits; and

a second shift register to be connected to the first register to receive bits in parallel from the first shift register, wherein the second shift register is to obtain clock signals from the clock generator.

2. The deframer of claim 1 , wherein the first shift register is to receive serial bits from a data compensater.

3. The deframer of claim 1 , wherein the first shift register is to receive a clock enable signal from a frame synchronization circuit.

4. The deframer of claim 1 , wherein the second shift register is to provide, in parallel, data from a multiplicity of received channels to a receive elastic store.

5. A deframer for wireless, multi-channel signaling, comprising:

data-bit manipulation hardware configured to:

receive serial bits from multiple source-channel frames, and

form the received serial bits into source-channel frames, each of which includes a plurality of data bits from only one source channel;

a clock generator capable of decoding justification bits and virtual channel message bits from overhead bits of the source-channel frames; and

a source-channel frame processor configured to:

extract the virtual channel message bits from a plurality of source-channel frames,

form a virtual channel message from the virtual channel message bits, and

remove overhead bits including the at least one justification bit from each source-channel frame to produce output channel frames corresponding to each source channel.

6. A method of deframing in wireless multiple channel communications, the method comprising:

removing appended overhead bits from framed data received from a virtual wireless channel;

separating the data into frames, each frame associated with one of a plurality channels of a multiple channel signal;

extracting virtual channel message bits from a plurality of frames for a given channel;

forming a virtual channel message from the virtual channel message bits; and

removing overhead bits from the frames.

7. The method of claim 6 , further comprising:

decoding justification bits and virtual channel message bits of the frames.

8. The method of claim 6 , wherein said removing overhead bits is to produce one or more output channel frames corresponding to one or more data source channels, wherein each output channel frame contains control protocol information that was originally contained in the corresponding data source channel.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein said control protocol data comprises one or more data source channel framing bits.
