Abstract

The present invention relates to a stud including, a first end and a second end, a torque transferring structure located at the first end, a shaft provided with an axis and including a threaded surface that is provided with a locking thread located adjacent to a Vee shaped thread, the threaded surface is dimensioned to engage a plurality of threads on a nut body, wherein the plurality of threads on the nut body are provided with a diameter greater than an M12, and the locking thread on the shaft is provided with a root surface located between a first angled surface and a second angled surface, wherein the root surface is angled relative to the axis of the shaft.

Claims (90)

1. A stud, comprising:

a) a shaft that includes an axis, a first end, and a second end;

b) the shaft is provided with a trilobular shape with a threaded surface;

c) the threaded surface includes a locking thread, a guide thread, and a conventional thread;

d) the guide thread includes a guide means for guiding the threads on the shaft into mating alignment with a female thread of a female threaded member;

e) the guide thread is generally located at the first end of the shaft and leads directly into the conventional thread;

f) the conventional thread is provided with a generally Vee-shaped root having a first root diameter configured to mate with the female threads of the female threaded member so as to be freely rotatable thereon;

g) the conventional thread has a generally constant shape which extends for a plurality of turns and leads directly into the locking thread; and

h) the locking thread includes a root surface provided with a second root diameter that is greater than the first root diameter, wherein the locking thread is configured to re-form the female threads to resist relative rotation between the shaft and the female threaded member.

2. The staid according to claim 1 , wherein the root surface is at an angle relative to the axis of the shaft.

3. The stud according to claim 2 , wherein the angle is between four and eight degrees.

4. The stud according to claim 1 , wherein the guide means includes a curved surface located between a first side and a second side.

5. The stud according to claim 1 , wherein the guide means includes a curved surface located between a first side that is curved and a second side that is curved.

6. The stud according to claim 1 , further comprising a torque transferring structure located at the second end.

7. The stud according to claim 1 , farther comprising a torque transferring structure located at the second end and an underside that includes a plurality of protrusions.

8. The stud according to claim 1 , wherein the shaft includes a stainless steel.

9. The stud according to claim 1 , wherein the guide thread is a plateau thread.

10. The stud according to claim 1 , wherein the guide thread is a plateau thread that is provided with a ramped cross-section profile.

11. The stud according to claim 1 , further comprising:

a) the female threaded member is rotatable about the axis of the shaft;

b) an annular surface on the female threaded member provided with a plurality of inclined faces oriented circumferentially forming portions of an undulating annular surface; and

c) a washer body rotatable relative to the female threaded member and provided with a bearing surface and a clamping surface, wherein the clamping surface includes a plurality of protrusions and the bearing surface is axially opposed to the annular surface on the female threaded member and provided with a plurality of inclined faces oriented circumferentially and forming portions of an undulating bearing surface.

12. The stud according to claim 1 , wherein the locking thread is provided with a first angled surface and a second angled surface.

13. The stud according to claim 12 , wherein an angle between the first angled surface and the second angled surface measures sixty degrees.

14. A stud comprising:

a) a shaft that is provided with a trilobular shape with a threaded surface and further provided with a locking thread, a guide thread, and a conventional thread;

b) the guide thread includes a guide means for guiding the threads on the shaft into mating alignment with a female thread of a female threaded member;

c) the guide thread is generally located at an end of the shaft and leads directly into the conventional thread;

d) the conventional thread is provided with a generally Vee-shaped root provided with a first root diameter configured to mate with the female threads of the female threaded member so as to be freely rotatable thereon;

e) the conventional thread has a generally constant shape which extends for a plurality of turns and leads directly into the locking thread; and

f) the locking thread includes a root surface provided with a second root diameter that is greater than the first root diameter, wherein the locking thread is configured to re-form the female threads to resist relative rotation between the shaft and the female threaded member.

15. The stud according to claim 14 , wherein the root surface is at an angle relative to an axis of the shaft.

16. The stud according to claim 15 , wherein the angle is between four and eight degrees.

17. The stud according to claim 14 , wherein the guide means includes a curved surface located between a first side and a second side.

18. The stud according to claim 14 wherein the guide means includes a curved surface located between a first side that is curved and a second side that is curved.

19. The stud according to claim 14 , further comprising a torque transferring structure.

20. The stud according to claim 14 , further comprising a torque transferring structure provided with an underside that includes a plurality of protrusions.

21. The stud according to claim 14 , wherein the shaft includes a stainless steel.

22. The stud according to claim 14 , wherein the guide thread is a plateau thread.

23. The stud according to claim 14 , wherein the guide thread is a plateau thread that is provided with a ramped cross-section profile.

24. The stud according to claim 14 , further comprising:

a) the female threaded member is rotatable about an axis of the shaft;

b) an annular surface on the female threaded member provided with a plurality of inclined faces oriented circumferentially forming portions of an undulating annular surface; and

c) a washer body rotatable relative to the female threaded member and provided with a bearing surface and a damping surface, wherein the damping surface includes a plurality of protrusions and the bearing surface is axially opposed to the annular surface on the female threaded member and provided with a plurality of inclined faces oriented circumferentially and forming portions of an undulating bearing surface.

25. The stud according to claim 14 , wherein the locking thread is provided with a first angled surface and a second angled surface.

26. The stud according to claim 25 , wherein an angle between the first angled surface and the second angled surface measures sixty degrees.

27. A stud, comprising:

a) a shaft is provided with a trilobular shape with a threaded surface and further including a locking thread, a guide thread, and a conventional thread;

b) the guide thread includes a guide means for guiding the threads on the shaft into mating alignment with a female tread of a female threaded member so that the female threaded member can be torqued onto the threaded surface of the shaft;

c) the guide thread is located generally at an end of the shaft and leads directly into the conventional thread;

d) the conventional thread is provided with a generally Vee-shaped root provided with a first root diameter configured to mate with the female threads of the female threaded member so as to be freely rotatable thereon;

e) the conventional thread has a generally constant shape which extends for a plurality of turns and leads directly into the locking thread; and

f) the locking thread includes a root surface provided with a second root diameter that is greater than the first root diameter, wherein the locking tread is configured to re-form the female threads to resist relative rotation between the shaft and the female threaded member.

28. The stud according to claim 27 , wherein the root surface is at an angle relative to an axis of the shaft.

29. The stud according to claim 28 , wherein the angle is between four and eight degrees.

30. The stud according to claim 27 , wherein the guide means includes a curved surface located between a first side and a second side.

31. The stud according to claim 27 , wherein the guide means includes a curved surface located between a first side that is curved and a second side that is curved.

32. The stud according to claim 27 , further comprising a torque transferring structure.

33. The stud according to claim 27 , further comprising a torque transferring structure provided with an underside that includes a plurality of protrusions.

34. The stud according to claim 27 , wherein the shaft includes a stainless steel.

35. The stud according to claim 27 , wherein the guide thread is a plateau thread.

36. The stud according to claim 27 , wherein the guide thread is a plateau thread that is provided with a ramped cross-section profile.

37. The stud according to claim 27 , further comprising:

a) the female threaded member is rotatable about an axis of the shaft;

b) an annular surface on the female threaded member provided with a plurality of inclined faces oriented circumferentially forming portions of an undulating annular surface; and

c) a washer body rotatable relative to the female threaded member and provided with a bearing surface and a clamping surface, wherein the clamping surface includes a plurality of protrusions and the bearing surface is axially opposed to the annular surface on the female threaded member and provided with a plurality of inclined faces oriented circumferentially and forming portions of an undulating bearing surface.

38. The stud according to claim 27 , wherein the locking thread is provided with a first angled surface and a second angled surface.

39. The stud according to claim 38 , wherein an angle between the first angled surface and the second angled surface measures sixty degrees.

40. A stud, comprising:

a) a shaft that is provided with a trilobular shape with a threaded surface and that further includes a locking thread, a guide thread, and a conventional thread;

b) the guide thread is provided with guide means configured to guide the threads on the shaft and a female threaded member with female threads into mating alignment;

c) the guide thread is generally located at an end of the shaft and leads directly to the conventional thread;

d) the conventional thread is provided with a generally Vee-shaped root provided with a first root diameter configured to mate with the threads of the female threaded member so as to be freely rotatable thereon;

e) the conventional thread has a generally constant shape which extends for a plurality of turns and leads directly into the locking thread; and

f) the locking thread includes a root surface provided with a second root diameter that is greater than the first root diameter, wherein the locking thread is configured to re-form the female threads to resist relative rotation between the shaft and the female threaded member.

41. The stud according to claim 40 , wherein the root surface is at an angle relative to an axis of the shaft.

42. The stud according to claim 41 , wherein the angle is between four and eight degrees.

43. The stud according to claim 40 , wherein the guide means includes a curved surface located between a first side and a second side.

44. The stud according to claim 40 , wherein the guide means includes a curved surface located between a first side that is curved and a second side that is curved.

45. The stud according to claim 40 , further comprising a torque transferring structure.

46. The stud according to claim 40 , further comprising a torque transferring structure provided with an underside that includes a plurality of protrusions.

47. The stud according to claim 40 , wherein the shaft includes a stainless steel.

48. The stud according to claim 40 , wherein the guide thread is a plateau thread.

49. The stud according to claim 40 , wherein the guide thread is a plateau thread that is provided with a ramped cross-section profile.

50. The stud according to claim 40 , further comprising:

a) the female treaded member is rotatable about an axis of the shaft;

b) an annular surface on the female threaded member provided with a plurality of inclined faces oriented circumferentially forming portions of an undulating annular surface; and

c) a washer body rotatable relative to the female threaded member and provided with a bearing surface and a clamping surface, wherein the clamping surface includes a plurality of protrusions and the bearing surface is axially opposed to the annular surface on the female threaded member and provided with a plurality of inclined faces oriented circumferentially and forming portions of an undulating bearing surface.

51. The stud according to claim 40 , wherein the locking thread is provided with a first angled surface and a second angled surface.

52. The stud according to claim 51 , wherein an angle between the first angled surface and the second angled surface measures sixty degrees.
