Abstract

A large amount of entrapping immobilization pellets with highly stable quality are produced inexpensively by high-speed treatment. There is provided a process for producing entrapping immobilization pellets in which microorganisms are entrapped and immobilized in an immobilizing agent, the process comprising polymerizing a mixture containing the microorganisms and a solution of the immobilizing agent in a forming frame into a gel to prepare a pellet block.

Claims (36)

1. A process for producing pellets in which microorganisms are entrapped and immobilized, the process comprising:

polymerizing a mixture containing the microorganisms and a prepolymer in a forming frame into a gel to form a block, the prepolymer being 3 to 10 weight % of the mixture; and

cutting the block to form pellets, the cutting comprising:

cutting the block into lattices; and

then cutting the lattices substantially into cubes to provide pellets,

wherein:

the forming frame has a ratio V/S of the volume V to the bottom area S of 10 to 100,

the forming frame can be closed with a lid, and

the block can be compressed to 70% or more of its initial thickness after which the block is broken down if further compressed, and the prepolymer has a molecular weight of 4,000 to 12,000.

2. The process for producing pellets according to claim 1 , wherein the mixture is heated to or maintained at a predetermined temperature during polymerization of the mixture.

3. The process for producing pellets according to claim 1 , wherein the mixture is polymerized for 10 to 60 minutes at a temperature of the forming frame of 20 to 30° C., the forming frame temperature providing the mixture with a temperature suitable to be polymerized.

4. The process for producing pellets according to claim 2 , wherein the mixture is polymerized for 10 to 60 minutes at a temperature of the forming frame of 20 to 30° C., the forming frame temperature providing the mixture with a temperature suitable to be polymerized.

5. The process for producing pellets according to claim 1 , further comprising:

after preparing the block in the forming frame, injecting a gas or liquid into the forming frame to remove the block.

6. The process for producing pellets according to claim 2 , further comprising:

after preparing the block in the forming frame, injecting a gas or liquid into the forming frame to remove the block.

7. The process for producing pellets according to claim 3 , further comprising:

after preparing the block in the forming frame, injecting a gas or liquid into the forming frame to remove the block.

8. The process for producing pellets according to claim 4 , further comprising:

after preparing the block in the forming frame, injecting a gas or liquid into the forming frame to remove the block.

9. The process for producing pellets according to claim 1 , wherein:

cutting the block to form pellets further comprises transporting the block while cutting the block, wherein a transport speed of the block and a speed of cutting the block are controlled during cutting so that the pellets after cutting are substantially cubes.

10. The process for producing pellets according to claim 2 , wherein:

cutting the block to form pellets further comprises transporting the block while cutting the block, wherein a transport speed of the block and a speed of cutting the block are controlled during cutting so that the pellets after cutting are substantially cubes.

11. The process for producing pellets according to claim 3 , wherein:

cutting the block to form pellets further comprises transporting the block while cutting the block, wherein a transport speed of the block and a speed of cutting the block are controlled during cutting so that the pellets after cutting are substantially cubes.

12. The process for producing pellets according to claim 4 , wherein:

cutting the block to form pellets further comprises transporting the block while cutting the block, wherein a transport speed of the block and a speed of cutting the block are controlled during cutting so that the pellets after cutting are substantially cubes.

13. The process for producing pellets according to claim 5 , wherein:

cutting the block to form pellets further comprises transporting the block while cutting the block, wherein a transport speed of the block and a speed of cutting the block are controlled during cutting so that the pellets after cutting are substantially cubes.

14. The process for producing pellets according to claim 6 , wherein:

cutting the block to form pellets further comprises transporting the block while cutting the block, wherein a transport speed of the block and a speed of cutting the block are controlled during cutting so that the pellets after cutting are substantially cubes.

15. The process for producing pellets according to claim 7 , wherein:

cutting the block to form pellets further comprises transporting the block while cutting the block, wherein a transport speed of the block and a speed of cutting the block are controlled during cutting so that the pellets after cutting are substantially cubes.

16. The process for producing pellets according to claim 8 , wherein:

cutting the block to form pellets further comprises transporting the block while cutting the block, wherein a transport speed of the block and a speed of cutting the block are controlled during cutting so that the pellets after cutting are substantially cubes.
