Abstract

Method of assembling components of an automatic banking machine or ATM. The ATM includes a top housing cover having a forward region and an upper fascia having a rearwardly extending portion that selectively overlays the forward region. The ATM includes a lower fascia having first and second side extensions that selectively overlay first and second forward regions of a safe or secure enclosure. The ATM may include a pivotal processor case for ease of installation and/or servicing of banking components. The safe housing may include dual openings for use in either a front-load or rear-load ATM. Banking machine components such as displays, card readers, receipt printers, and keypads may be installed or serviced by extending a rollout mounting tray or by rearwardly sliding the top housing.

Claims (37)

1. A method comprising:

a) mounting a top housing in supporting connection with a chest adapted for use in an automated banking machine, wherein the chest includes a chest housing defining a secure area, and wherein the chest houses at least a portion of a currency dispenser mechanism, wherein the chest housing includes first and second side walls having first and second forward portions, respectively, and wherein the chest includes a chest door movably mounted in supporting connection with the chest housing, wherein the chest door is selectively movable between a closed position, wherein the chest door closes an opening in the chest housing, and an open position;

b) mounting an upper fascia to the top housing, wherein the top housing includes a front opening to an interior area, and wherein the top housing includes a forward region adjacent the front opening, and wherein the upper fascia includes a rearwardly extending portion;

c) mounting a lower fascia in movable supporting connection with the chest housing, wherein the lower fascia is selectively movable between a covering position wherein the lower fascia covers the chest door when the chest door is in the closed position, and an accessible position wherein the lower fascia is disposed away from the chest door when the chest door is in the closed position;

d) selectively positioning the upper fascia and the top housing relative each other wherein the front opening is selectively covered by the upper fascia, and wherein the rearwardly extending portion of the upper fascia overlays the forward region of the top housing;

e) selectively positioning the lower fascia in the covering position, wherein a first side extension of the lower fascia overlays the first forward portion of the chest housing, and wherein a second side extension of the lower fascia overlays the second forward portion of the chest housing.

2. The method of 1 further comprising:

f) placing a lower edge surface of the upper fascia in substantially parallel alignment with an upper edge surface of the lower fascia.

3. The method of claim 2 further comprising:

g) substantially vertically aligning an end edge of the rearwardly extending portion of the upper fascia with an end edge of the first side extension of the lower fascia.

4. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

f) mounting a second chest door in movable supporting connection with the chest housing, wherein the second chest door is operable to close a second opening in the chest housing.

5. The method of claim 4 further comprising:

g) mounting a locking bolt mechanism to the chest door; and

h) mounting an alternate securing mechanism to the second chest door.

6. The method of claim 5 further comprising:

i) mounting a processor case in supporting rotational connection with a top wall of the chest housing, wherein the processor case is selectively rotatable between an operational position and a service position, and wherein the processor case houses at least one processor.

7. The method of claim 6 further comprising:

j) mounting at least one upper banking machine component in supporting connection with a rollout tray mounted in movable supporting connection with the chest housing, wherein the rollout tray is selectively movable between a retracted position wherein the rollout tray is within the interior area, and an extended position wherein the rollout tray extends outwardly from the interior area through the front opening in the top housing.

8. The method of claim 7 further comprising:

k) selectively placing the rollout tray in the extended position;

l) subsequent to (k), selectively rotating the processor case into the service position; and

m) subsequent to (l), establishing an operative connection between the at least one upper banking machine component and the at least one processor.

9. The method of claim 8 wherein in (a) the top housing is mounted in slidable relationship relative to the chest housing.

10. The method of claim 9 further comprising:

n) engaging an inwardly extending flange on the lower fascia with the chest door when the lower fascia is in the accessible position and the chest door is in the open position.

11. The method of claim 10 further comprising:

o) placing a lower edge surface of the upper fascia in substantially parallel alignment with an upper edge surface of the lower fascia;

p) substantially vertically aligning an end edge of the rearwardly extending portion of the upper fascia with an end edge of the first side extension of the lower fascia.

12. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

f) mounting a second chest door in movable supporting connection with the chest housing, wherein the second chest door is operable to close a second opening in the chest housing;

g) mounting a locking bolt mechanism in supporting connection with the chest door; and

h) mounting an alternate securing mechanism to the second chest door.

13. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

f) mounting a processor case in supporting connection with a top wall of the chest housing, wherein the processor case is selectively movable between an operational position and a service position, and wherein the processor case houses at least one processor.

14. The method of claim 1 further comprising:

f) providing an inwardly extending flange on the lower fascia, wherein the inwardly extending flange is operative to engage the chest door when the lower fascia is in the accessible position and the chest door is in the open position.
