Abstract

An automated banking machine includes a top housing supported on the housing of a chest. A rearwardly extending projection of an upper fascia selectively overlays a forward region of the top housing adjacent the front opening. A lower fascia is selectively movable between a covering position where the lower fascia covers the front of the chest, and an accessible position where the front of the chest is accessible. The lower fascia includes first and second side extensions. When the lower fascia is in the covering position, the side extensions overlay forward side portions of the chest housing. The lower fascia may be adapted to engage the open chest door during servicing operations. The automated banking machine may include a rollout tray supporting upper banking machine components, a rotatable processor case, and/or a slidable top housing cover to permit access to banking components for installation or servicing.

a lower fascia movably mounted in supporting connection with the chest housing, wherein the lower fascia is selectively movable between a covering position, wherein the lower fascia covers the chest door when the chest door is in the closed position, and an accessible position wherein the lower fascia is disposed away from the chest door when the chest door is in the closed position.

3. The apparatus of claim 2 wherein the first and second side walls of the chest housing have first and second forward portions, respectively, and wherein the lower fascia includes first and second spaced side extensions, and wherein when the lower fascia is in the covering position the first side extension overlies the first forward portion and the second side extension overlies the second forward portion.

4. The apparatus of claim 3 wherein the lower fascia is adapted to engage the chest door when the lower fascia is in the accessible position and the chest door is in the open position.

5. The apparatus of claim 3 , wherein when the lower fascia is in the covering position, the first side extension is spaced from the first side wall of the chest housing by a lower gap, and wherein the lower gap is not visible in a front view of the apparatus.

6. The apparatus of claim 3 , wherein the rearwardly extending portion of the upper fascia includes an end edge, and wherein the first side extension of the lower fascia includes an end edge, and wherein when the upper fascia selectively covers the front opening and the lower fascia is in the covering position, the end edge of the upper fascia is substantially vertically aligned with the end edge of the lower fascia at a first side of the apparatus.

7. The apparatus of claim 2 , wherein the upper fascia includes a lower edge surface and the lower fascia includes an upper edge surface, and wherein the lower edge surface is in substantial parallel alignment with the upper edge surface when both the upper fascia selectively covers the front opening and the lower fascia is in the covering position.

8. The apparatus of claim 1 wherein when the upper fascia selectively covers the front opening, rearwardly extending side portions of the upper fascia overly respective side wall forward regions of the top housing.

9. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein when the upper fascia covers the front opening, the rearwardly extending portion is separated from the top housing by a first gap, wherein the first gap is not visible in a front view of the apparatus.

10. The apparatus of claim 1 and further comprising:

a rollout tray movably mounted in supporting connection with the chest housing, wherein the rollout tray is operable to move between a retracted position wherein the rollout tray is within the interior area and an extended position wherein the rollout tray extends outward from the front opening.

11. The apparatus of claim 10 wherein the upper fascia is in movably supporting connection with the rollout tray.

12. A method of servicing the ATM apparatus recited in claim 11 , comprising:

(a) moving the rollout tray to cause the upper fascia to move away from the front opening;

(b) servicing the ATM apparatus; and

(c) moving the rollout tray to cause the upper fascia to cover the front opening.

13. The apparatus of claim 10 wherein at least a card reader and a display are mounted in supporting connection with the rollout tray.

14. A method comprising:

(a) moving an upper fascia away from a position covering a front opening to an interior area of a top housing of an automated banking machine, wherein the upper fascia is movably mounted in supporting connection with the top housing,

wherein the automated banking machine includes a chest positioned below the interior area, wherein the chest includes a chest housing defining a secure area which has at least a portion of a currency dispenser therein,

wherein the upper fascia includes a rearwardly extending portion, wherein the top housing includes a top wall comprising a forward region adjacent the opening,

wherein the moving causes the rearwardly extending portion to move away from vertically overlying the forward region;

(b) servicing the automated banking machine; and

(c) moving the upper fascia to cover the front opening, wherein the moving causes the rearwardly extending portion to vertically overly the forward region.

15. The method according to claim 14 wherein the automated banking machine includes a rollout tray movably mounted in supporting connection with the chest housing, wherein the rollout tray is operable to move between a retracted position where the rollout tray is within the interior area and an extended position where the rollout tray extends outward from the front opening, wherein step (a) includes moving the rollout tray from the retracted position to the extended position, and wherein step (c) includes moving the rollout tray from the extended position to the retracted position.

16. An ATM apparatus comprising:

a top housing bounding an interior area, the top housing having a front opening to the interior area, wherein the top housing includes a forward region adjacent the opening;
