Abstract

Systems, methods, and a user interface for automatically scheduling a media play is disclosed. The user can specify criteria for play of the media play, including times, stations, and/or external criteria such as a weather condition or the occurrence of an event. Information relevant to the entered criteria is received and assessed against the criteria to determine if the criteria are met. Responsive to the received information meeting the criteria for play of the media play, an accessor accesses the media play inventory and inserts the media play into a media feed.

Claims (43)

1. A computer-implemented method for automatically scheduling a media play, the method comprising:

receiving, by a computer system including one or more electronic computing devices, from a user a specified criterion for scheduling the media play in a media feed; and

receiving, by a computer system, a cost per inquiry (CPI) that the user is willing to pay for scheduling the media play in the media feed;

monitoring, by the computer system, whether the specified criterion is met or is not met;

bidding, by the computer system in a CPI-auction for scheduling the media play in the media feed when the specified criterion is met and when the specified criterion is not met;

collecting, by the computer system, listener inquiries resulting from plays of the media play scheduled for when the criterion has been met and from plays of the media play scheduled for when the criterion has not been met;

calculating, by the computer system based on the received CPI and the collected listener inquiries, a first effective cost per mille (CPM) when the specified criterion is met, and a second effective CPM when the specified criterion is not met; and

bidding, by the computer system in a CPM auction, the first effective CPM when the specified criterion is met, or the second effective CPM when the specified criterion is not met.

2. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the specified criterion comprises a weather condition.

3. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the specified criterion comprises a traffic condition.

4. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the specified criterion comprises an occurrence of an event.

5. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the specified criterion comprises use of a keyword.

6. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the specified criterion comprises a wait time of a call center.

7. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the user comprises an advertiser.

8. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the specified criterion comprises a weather forecast, a traffic report, or a sports score.

9. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein said monitoring whether the specified criterion is met or is not met comprises accessing data from a syndicated data feed.

10. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein said receiving the specified criterion occurs yearly.

11. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein said receiving the specified criterion occurs monthly.

12. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein said receiving the specified criterion occurs daily.

13. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein said receiving the specified criterion occurs substantially in real time.

14. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein said monitoring whether the specified criterion is met or is not met occurs daily.

15. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein said monitoring whether the specified criterion is met or is not met occurs hourly.

16. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein said monitoring whether the specified criterion is met or is not met occurs substantially in real time.

17. The computer-implemented method of claim 1 , wherein the specified criterion specifies a rule for playing of a flight within a campaign.

18. The method of claim 1 , wherein said bidding in CPI auction then moving to CPM auction is performed by the computer system without intervention from the user.

19. A computer program product stored on a non-transitory computer readable medium, the computer program product including instructions that when executed by data processing apparatus cause the data processing apparatus to perform operations comprising:

receiving, from an advertiser, a specified criterion for scheduling media play time in a media feed; and

receiving, from the advertiser, a cost per inquiry (CPI) that the advertiser is willing to pay for scheduling the media play time in the media feed;

monitoring whether the specified criterion is met or is not met;

scheduling the media play time in the media feed when the specified criterion is met and when the specified criterion is not met;

collecting listener inquiries resulting from plays of the media play scheduled for when the criterion has been met and from plays of the media play scheduled for when the criterion has not been met;

calculating, based on the received CPI and the collected listener inquiries, a first effective cost per mille (CPM) when the specified criterion is met, and a second effective CPM when the specified criterion is not met; and

bidding, by the data processing apparatus in a CPM-auction, the first effective CPM when the specified criterion is met, or the second effective CPM when the specified criterion is not met.

20. The computer program product of claim 19 , wherein the listener inquiries comprise phone calls.

21. The computer program product of claim 19 , wherein the listener inquiries comprise website hits.

22. The computer program product of claim 19 , wherein the listener inquiries comprise coupon usage.

23. The computer program product of claim 19 , wherein the listener inquires comprise sales.

24. The computer program product of claim 19 , wherein said monitoring whether the specified criterion is met or is not met is performed by a source remote from a hub computer system, wherein the hub computer system performs said collecting.

25. The computer program product of claim 23 , wherein said receiving the specified criterion occurs weekly.

26. The computer program product of claim 23 , wherein said monitoring whether the specified criterion is met or is not met occurs weekly.

27. The computer program product of claim 23 , wherein the media feed is one of a plurality of media feeds.

28. The computer program product of claim 23 , wherein the specified criterion specifies a rule for playing of a media play within a campaign.

29. The computer program product of claim 19 , wherein said bidding in CPI auction then moving to CPM auction is performed by the data processing apparatus without intervention from the advertiser.
