Method and circuit for storing and providing historical physiological data
View Patent ↗Embodiments of the present invention include systems and methods that relate to pulse oximetry. Specifically, one embodiment includes an oximeter sensor comprising a light emitting element configured to emit light, a light detector configured to receive the light, and an accelerometer configured to detect motion of the oximeter sensor.
1. An oximeter sensor, comprising:
a light emitting element configured to emit light;
a light detector configured to receive the light;
an accelerometer configured to detect motion of the oximeter sensor; and
a memory storing an algorithm configured to correct physio-optic effects from motion detected by the accelerometer.
2. The oximeter sensor of claim 1 , wherein the accelerometer comprises a MEMS accelerometer incorporated into a chip within the oximeter sensor.
3. An oximeter system, comprising:
an oximeter sensor comprising:
a light emitting element configured to emit light;
a light detector configured to receive the light;
an accelerometer configured to detect motion of the oximeter sensor; and
a sensor memory storing an algorithm configured to correct physio-optic effects from motion detected by the accelerometer; and
a monitor communicatively coupleable with the sensor, the monitor configured to receive light detector and accelerometer information from the sensor and to implement the algorithm.
4. The oximeter system of claim 3 , wherein the oximeter sensor comprises an alarm mechanism configured to indicate the presence of a designated amount of motion detected by the accelerometer.
5. The oximeter system of claim 3 , wherein the monitor comprises a suspend mechanism configured to suspend operation of the oximeter system when a designated amount of motion is detected by the accelerometer.
6. The oximeter system of claim 3 , wherein the accelerometer comprises a MEMS accelerometer incorporated into a chip within the oximeter sensor.
7. An oximeter monitor, comprising:
a drive circuit configured to provide signals to circuitry of an oximeter sensor;
a circuit configured to receive optical data from a detector of the oximeter sensor and information from an accelerometer of the oximeter sensor, the information relating to motion of the oximeter sensor; and
a circuit configured to receive and implement an algorithm from memory of the oximeter sensor, wherein the algorithm is configured to correct physio-optic effects from motion detected by the accelerometer in the optical data.
8. The monitor of claim 7 , comprising an alarm mechanism configured to indicate the presence of a designated amount of motion detected by the accelerometer.
9. A method of monitor operation, comprising:
providing signals to circuitry of an oximeter sensor;
receiving information from an accelerometer of the oximeter sensor, the information relating to motion of the oximeter sensor; and
receiving and implementing an algorithm from a memory of the oximeter sensor, wherein the algorithm is configured to correct physio-optic effects from motion detected by the accelerometer.
10. The method of claim 9 , comprising indicating the presence of a designated amount of motion detected by the accelerometer with accelerometer data.
11. The method of claim 9 , comprising suspending operation of the oximeter sensor when a designated amount of motion is detected by the accelerometer.
12. A method of oximeter sensor operation, comprising:
projecting light from a light emitting element;
receiving the light with a light detector;
detecting motion of the oximeter sensor with an accelerometer component of the oximeter sensor; and
providing a monitor access to an algorithm stored in a sensor memory, wherein the algorithm is configured to correct physio-optic effects from motion detected by the accelerometer.
13. The method of claim 12 , comprising indicating the presence of a designated amount of motion detected by the accelerometer with accelerometer data.
14. The method of claim 12 , wherein the accelerometer component comprises a MEMS accelerometer incorporated into a chip within the oximeter sensor.
15. A method of manufacturing an oximeter sensor, comprising:
providing a light emitting element configured to emit light;
providing a light detector configured to receive the light;
providing an accelerometer configured to detect motion of the oximeter sensor; and
providing a memory storing an algorithm configured to correct physio-optic effects from motion detected by the accelerometer.
16. The method of claim 15 , wherein providing the accelerometer comprises providing a MEMS accelerometer incorporated into a chip within the oximeter sensor.
