Abstract

A handheld electronic device for use at a venue hosting a live sporting event, having a receiver for receiving a wireless RF transmission conveying a plurality of video streams derived from video cameras filming the live sporting event, a display and a user interface for selecting a video stream among the plurality of video streams to be displayed on the display. The handheld electronic device is capable to acquire a locked mode of operation and an unlocked mode of operation, in the locked mode of operation the handheld electronic device being precluded from displaying the video streams to a spectator, in the unlocked mode of operation the handheld electronic device being enabled to display the video streams to the spectator, the handheld electronic device capable to acquire the unlocked mode of operation in response to reception of authentication data wirelessly transmitted to the handheld electronic device.

Claims (23)

1. A handheld electronic device for use at a venue hosting a live sporting event, comprising:

a) a receiver for receiving a wireless RF transmission conveying:

i) a plurality of real-time video streams conveying live sporting event content, the live sporting event content including moving images of action occurring at the live sporting event held at the venue;

ii) real-time physiological data associated with a player involved in the live sporting event held at the venue;

iii) information that defines which of the plurality of real-time video streams the real-time physiological data is currently associated with, the real-time physiological data is associated with different ones of the plurality of real-time video streams at different times;

b) a display;

c) a user interface for selecting a real-time video stream among said plurality of real-time video streams to be displayed on said display;

d) selecting one of a first real-time video stream and a second real-time video stream for real-time display wherein said handheld electronic device capable of overlaying the real-time physiological data on a first real-time video stream of said plurality of video streams when said information indicates that said real-time physiological data is associated with said first real-time video stream or said handheld electronic device capable of overlaying the real-time physiological data on a second real-time video stream of said plurality of real-time video streams when said real-time information indicates that said real-time physiological data is associated with said real-time second video stream.

2. A handheld electronic device as defined in claim 1 , wherein at least two of the video streams are derived from cameras filming the live sporting event and convey different views of the action.

3. A handheld electronic device as defined in claim 2 , wherein said physiological data conveys a heart rate.

4. A handheld electronic device as defined in claim 2 , wherein said physiological data conveys a body temperature.

5. A handheld electronic device as defined in claim 3 , wherein said live sporting event is a car race.

6. A handheld electronic device for use at a venue hosting a live sporting event, comprising:

a receiver for receiving a wireless RF transmission conveying:

i) a plurality of real-time video streams conveying live sporting event content, the live sporting event content including moving images of action occurring at the live sporting event held at the venue;

ii) real-time physiological data is associated with a player involved in the live sporting event held at the venue including information defining which of the plurality of real-time video streams the real-time physiological data is associated with;

a display;

a storage medium for storing the real-time physiological data;

a user interface for selecting a video stream among said plurality of real-time video streams to be displayed on said display;

selecting the real-time video stream wherein said hand held electronic device capable of overlaying real-time physiological data on the real-time video stream of said plurality of real-time video streams when said information indicates that said real-time physiological data is associated with said real-time video stream and said real-time video stream is selected for display.

7. A handheld electronic device as defined in claim 6 , wherein at least two of the video streams are derived from cameras filming the live sporting event and convey different views of the action.

8. A handheld electronic device as defined in claim 7 , wherein said handheld electronic device is responsive to spectator inputs entered at said user interface to manipulate images of the video game on said display.

9. A handheld electronic device as defined in claim 8 , wherein the video game data includes program code for execution by a processor of said handheld electronic device.
