Abstract

A handset device ( 10 ) includes a substrate ( 56 ) defining a first audio port portion ( 78 ) and having a contact pad ( 266 ). An adhesive ( 60 ) is operatively coupled to the substrate ( 56 ). The adhesive ( 60 ) defines a second audio port portion ( 276 ) stacked with the first audio port portion ( 278 ) and defines a first electrical port portion ( 262 ). A speaker ( 32 ) having an electrical connector ( 238 ) is operatively coupled to the contact pad ( 266 ) through the first electrical port portion ( 262 ). The adhesive ( 60 ) is operative to seal the first and second audio port portions ( 278 and 276 ) from the electrical port portion ( 262 ). In addition, in one example, the handset device ( 10 ) may include a substrate ( 56 ) defining a first audio port portion ( 278 ), a speaker ( 32 ) operatively coupled to the substrate ( 56 ), and a rear housing ( 20 ) operatively coupled to the substrate ( 56 ) and defining an audio cavity ( 1104 ).

Claims (18)

1. A handset device comprising:

a substrate defining a first audio port portion and having a contact pad;

an adhesive operatively coupled to the substrate wherein the adhesive defines a second audio port portion stacked with the first audio port portion and defines at least a portion of a first electrical port portion; and

a speaker having an electrical connector operatively coupled to the contact pad through the first electrical port portion wherein the adhesive is operative to seal the first and second audio port portions from the electrical port portion.

2. The handset device of claim 1 wherein the electrical connector is a spring connector.

3. The handset device of claim 1 further comprising a sheet operatively coupled to the substrate wherein the sheet further defines a third audio port portion stacked with the second audio port portion.

4. The handset device of claim 3 further comprising a display operatively coupled between the sheet and the substrate.

5. The handset device of claim 4 wherein the display partly surrounds the second and third audio port portions.

6. A handset device comprising:

a substrate defining a first audio port portion and having a contact pad;

a metal chassis operatively coupled to the substrate wherein the metal chassis defines a second audio port portion stacked with the first audio port portion and defines a first electrical port portion; and

a speaker having an electrical connector operatively coupled to a contact pad through the first electrical port portion and operatively coupled to the metal chassis with a gasket therebetween wherein the gasket is operative to seal the first and second audio port portions from the electrical port portion.

7. The handset device of claim 6 wherein the electrical connector is a spring connector.

8. The handset device of claim 6 further comprising a sheet operatively coupled to the substrate wherein the sheet further defines a third audio port portion stacked with the second audio port portion.

9. The handset device of claim 8 further comprising a display operatively coupled between the sheet and the substrate.

10. The handset device of claim 6 further comprising an adhesive disposed between the metal chassis and the substrate.

11. The handset device of claim 6 further comprising a sheet operatively coupled to the substrate wherein the sheet further defines the second audio port portion stacked with the first audio port portion.

12. The handset device of claim 6 further comprising a top antenna and integral connectors that are located in an audio cavity and coupled to openings in a metal chassis and a substrate adhesive layer to a user interface substrate.
