Abstract

An administration console can allow a user to input in indication of their relative weight of search-independent ranks and text matching. The system can use the relative weight to order the results of searches.

Claims (34)

1 . A computer-based search system comprising:

An administration console that allows a user to input an indication of the relative weight of search-independent ranks and text matching; and

a search component to use the relative weight indication to order the results of searches.

2 . The computer-based search system of claim 1 , wherein the administration console uses a graphical element to allow users to select the relative weight.

3 . The computer-based search system of claim 2 , wherein the administration console uses a slider to allow users to select the relative weight.

4 . The computer-based search system of claim 1 , wherein the search logic uses connections between users and documents to create the search independent ranks.

5 . The computer-based search system of claim 1 , wherein the search logic uses connections between tags and documents to create the search independent ranks.

6 . The computer-based search system of claim 1 , wherein the search system uses matrix operations to create the search independent ranks.

7 . The computer-based search system of claims 1 , wherein the search system uses a linear combination of the search independent ranks and the text matching to order the search results, wherein a relative weight indication is used to determine the linear combination.

8 . A computer-based search system comprising:

an administration console to input indications of the importance object ranking factors; and

search logic that uses the indications to determine objects search-independent ranks, the search independent ranks being used to order the results of searches.

9 . The computer-based search system of claim 8 , wherein the administrative console uses graphical elements to allow users to select the indications.

10 . The computer-based search system of claim 9 , wherein sliders are used to allow users to select the indications.

11 . The computer-based search system of claim 8 , wherein the administration console displays default values of the indications.

12 . The computer-based system of claim 8 , wherein the indications include indications that concern how rank is applied to documents.

13 . The computer-based system of claim 8 , wherein the indications include indications that concern how rank is applied to tags.

14 . The computer-based system of claim 8 , wherein the indications include indications that concern how rank is applied to users.

15 . The computer-based system of claim 8 , wherein the administration console allows the user to select an indication of how the importance of certain actions to the ranks decreases over time.

16 . A computer-based search system comprising:

an administration console that allows a user to select an indication of how the importance of certain actions to search-independent ranks decreases over time; and

search component to update the search independent ranks using the indication.

17 . The computer-based search system of claim 16 , wherein the indication is a half life indication.

18 . The computer-based search system of claim 16 , wherein the indication determines the decrease of the importance of a user viewing an object over time.

19 . The computer-based search system of claim 16 , wherein the indication determines the decrease of the importance of a user tagging an object over time.

20 . A computer-based search system comprising:

an administration console that allows users to select at least one indication pertaining to search independent rank;

a search component to use the indication to order the results of searches; and

a statistics collection component to collect statistics concerning user interaction with search results pages; wherein the administration console allows the display of comparisons of statistics collected on searches different indications.

21 . The computer-based search system of claims 20 , wherein the indication is a weight of search indication ranks and text matching.

22 . The computer-based search system of claim 20 , where the indication is an object factor ranking indication that is used to create search independent ranks for objects.

23 . The computer-based search system of claim 20 , wherein the indication indicates how the importance of certain actions on search-independent ranks declines over time.

24 . The computer-based search system of claim 20 , wherein the statistics include information concerning the order of user selected objects from a search.

25 . The computer-based search system of claim 24 , wherein the administration console display a comparison of the order of selected objects on searches with the different indication values.
