Abstract

In a method for engraving of line patterns or text by use of processed tracks which accept printing ink on a processing surface of a printing form, a printing screen is provided with screen elements for the processing surface. With at least one engraving tool, the line patterns or text are engraved at the processing surface which are independent of the printing screen with a plurality of engraving tool tracks for each screen element of the screen used for the line patterns or text by engraving a plurality of said processed tracks forming lines in the screen elements to form the line patterns or text. Supporting locations are provided for a doctor blade.

Claims (26)

1 - 263 . (canceled)

264 . A method for engraving of line patterns or text by use of processed tracks which accept printing ink on a processing surface of a rotogravure printing cylinder, comprising the steps of:

providing a printing screen with screen elements for said processing surface; and

engraving with at least one engraving tool the line patterns or text at the rotogravure processing surface which are independent of the printing screen with a plurality of engraving tool tracks for each screen element of the screen used for said line patterns or text by engraving a plurality of said processed tracks forming lines in said screen elements to form said line patterns or text, and providing supporting locations for a doctor blade.

265 . A method of claim 264 wherein the line patterns or text are engraved with at least four tracks per screen element.

266 . A method of claim 264 wherein the line patterns or text are engraved with at least eight tracks per screen element.

267 . A method of claim 264 wherein the at least one engraving tool comprises a laser beam.

268 . A method of claim 267 wherein a start and stop of each of the engraved lines are created by modulating said laser beam on and off.

269 . A method of claim 264 wherein said supporting locations are provided for each screen element of the screen used for creating said line segments or text.

270 . A method of claim 264 wherein the at least one engraving tool comprises a fiber laser.

271 . A method of claim 264 wherein the line patterns or text are engraved with at least four separate laser beams per screen element.

272 . A method of claim 264 wherein the at least one engraving tool comprises a laser beam having a spot size on the processing surface of 10 μm or less.

273 . A method of claim 264 wherein the at least one engraving tool comprises a laser beam having a spot size on the processing surface of approximately 20 μm or less.

274 . A method of claim 264 wherein the at least one engraving tool comprises a laser beam which generates a power density at the processing surface of at least 10 7 W/cm 2 at full beam intensity.

275 . A method of claim 264 wherein the at least one engraving tool comprises a laser beam which generates a power density at the processing surface of at least 10 8 W/cm 2 at full beam intensity.

276 . A method of claim 264 wherein the at least one engraving tool comprises a laser beam which has a power of at least 100 watts.

277 . A method of claim 264 wherein the processing surface comprises metal.

278 . A method for engraving of line patterns or text by use of processed tracks which accept printing ink on a processing surface of a rotogravure print cylinder, comprising the steps of:

providing a printing screen with screen elements for said processing surface; and

engraving the line patterns or text at the rotogravure processing surface which are independent of the printing screen with a plurality of engraving tool tracks for at least each screen element of the screen used for said line patterns or text by engraving a plurality of said processed tracks forming lines in said screen elements to form said line patterns or text, and providing supporting locations for a doctor blade between adjacent ends of the lines.

279 . A method for engraving of line patterns or text by use of processed tracks which accept printing ink on a processing surface of a rotogravure printing cylinder, comprising the steps of:

providing a printing screen with screen elements for said processing surface; and

engraving with at least one engraving tool the line patterns or text at the rotogravure processing surface which are independent of the printing screen with at least four engraving tool tracks for each screen element of the screen used for said line patterns or text by engraving a plurality of said processed tracks forming lines in said screen elements to form said line patterns or text, and providing supporting locations for a doctor blade at least at ends of said lines.

280 . A method for forming line patterns or text by use of processed tracks on a processing surface of a printing form associated with a printing cylinder, comprising the steps of:

providing a printing screen with screen elements for said processing surface; and

forming with at least one engraving tool the line patterns or text at the processing surface which are independent of the printing screen with a plurality of engraving tool tracks for each screen element of the screen used for said line patterns or text by forming a plurality of said processed tracks forming lines in said screen elements to form said line patterns or text.
