Abstract

A flat panel display and a method of manufacturing the same are disclosed. In one embodiment, the flat panel display includes a substrate, a plurality of pixels formed on the substrate, and a light resonating layer formed on the subpixels. Each of the pixels includes subpixels that emit red light, green light, and blue light, respectively. The light resonating layer includes two or more layers and varies in thickness depending on the colors of the light emitted from the subpixels.

Claims (24)

1. A flat panel display, comprising:

a substrate;

a plurality of pixels formed on the substrate, wherein each pixel includes three subpixels emitting red light, green light, and blue light, respectively; and

a light resonating layer formed on the subpixels,

wherein the light resonating layer includes a plurality of sub-layers, wherein each of the sub-layers comprises, in a given pixel, three sections having different thicknesses, and wherein the three sections are formed over the three subpixels, respectively.

2. The flat panel display of claim 1 , wherein the light resonating layer includes at least one low refractive layers and at least one high refractive layers, wherein the at least one low refractive layers has a first refractive index, and wherein the at least one high refractive layer has a second refractive index which is greater than the first refractive index.

3. The flat panel display of claim 1 , wherein the light resonating layer includes a first sub-layer and a second sub-layer.

4. The flat panel display of claim 3 , wherein the first sub-layer is closer to the subpixel than the second sub-layer and has a lower refractive index than that of the second sub-layer.

5. The flat panel display of claim 4 , wherein the refractive index of the first sub-layer is in the range of about 1.0 to about 1.5.

6. The flat panel display of claim 5 , wherein the first sub-layer is formed of at least one of the following: silicate matrix, methylsiloxanes polymer, siloxane, Ti—O—Si, acrylic polymer, epoxy polymer, an oxide, and a fluoride.

7. The flat panel display of claim 4 , wherein the refractive index of the second sub-layer is in the range of about 1.5 to about 3.0.

8. The flat panel display of claim 7 , wherein the second sub-layer is formed of a sol gel material.

9. The flat panel display of claim 8 , wherein the high refractive particles are formed of at least one of the following: SiN x , TiO 2 , Nb 2 O 5 , and Ta 2 O x .

10. The flat panel display of claim 4 , wherein the thickness of the first sub-layer is (nλ)/2, where n is a positive integer and λ is the wavelength of light emitted from the subpixel.

11. The flat panel display of claim 4 , wherein the thickness of the second sub-layer is (2m+1)λ/4, where m is a positive integer and λ is the wavelength of light emitted from the subpixel.

12. The flat panel display of claim 1 , wherein the subpixel comprises an organic light emitting device.

13. The flat panel display of claim 1 , wherein the light emitted from the subpixels is emitted upward from the subpixels.

14. A flat panel display, comprising:

a substrate;

a plurality of pixels formed on the substrate, wherein each pixel includes a plurality of subpixels and each subpixel emits a different color of light; and

a brightness control layer formed on the subpixels, wherein the brightness control layer includes first and second sub-layers, wherein at least one of the first and second sub-layers comprises, in a given pixel, a plurality of sections having different thicknesses, and wherein the plurality of sections are formed over the plurality of subpixels, respectively.

15. The flat panel display of claim 14 , wherein the first sub-layer has a first refractive index, and wherein the second sub-layer has a second refractive index which is greater than the first refractive index.

16. The flat panel display of claim 14 , wherein the brightness control layer includes more than two sub-layers sequentially formed, and wherein two adjacent sub-layers have substantially different refractive indexes.

17. The flat panel display of claim 14 , wherein the plurality of subpixels include three subpixels emitting red light, green light, and blue light, respectively.
