Abstract

A zoom lens with a wide angle of view and a high zooming ratio and a camera employing the zoom lens. The zoom lens includes a first lens group having a positive refractive power, a second lens group having a negative refractive power, a third lens group having a positive refractive power, a fourth lens group having a negative refractive power, and a fifth lens group having a positive refractive power, wherein the first through fifth lens groups are sequentially arranged from an object side toward an image side. The first through fifth lens groups are moved during zooming between wide angle position to telephoto position in a manner that increases the distances between the first and second lens groups, between the third and fourth lens groups, and between the fourth and fifth lens groups and decreases a distance between the second and third lens groups. The zoom lens includes the five lens groups that are positive, negative, positive, negative, and positive, respectively, thus achieving a wide angle of view and a high zooming ratio.

Claims (72)

A zoom lens comprising a first lens group having a positive refractive power, a second lens group having a negative refractive power, a third lens group having a positive refractive power, a fourth lens group having a negative refractive power, and a fifth lens group having a positive refractive power, wherein the first through fifth lens groups are sequentially arranged from an object side toward an image side,

wherein the first through fifth lens groups are moved during zooming between a wide angle position to a telephoto position, thereby increasing the distance between the first and second lens groups, between the third and fourth lens groups, and between the fourth and fifth lens groups, and decreasing the distance between the second and third lens groups; and

wherein the fourth lens group comprises a positive meniscus lens having a concave surface toward the object side and a negative lens arranged sequentially from the object side.

2. The zoom lens of claim 1 , wherein the positive lens is separated from the negative lens by an air gap.

3. The zoom lens of claim 1 , wherein the third lens group includes a double convex lens having an aspherical surface and a doublet comprising a positive lens having a strong convex surface toward the image side and a negative meniscus lens, wherein the double convex lens and the doublet are sequentially arranged from the object side toward the image side.
