Abstract

A graphical user interface (GUI) and accompanying functionality for binding Web page definitional elements to a back-end state (e.g., client- or server-side back-end state) and custom logic is provided. In one embodiment, a template containing definitional elements, custom logic, and bindings are generated that define all or a portion of a Web page based on input received and functionality provided by the invention.

Claims (31)

1. A method for binding a web page definitional element to a variable comprising:

determining that a variable is suitable for binding to at least one attribute of a web page definitional element; and

including the variable, based at least in part on said determination, in a set of one or more variables available to be bound to the web page definitional element;

wherein the variable is a variable that stores a back-end state information associated with the web page.

2. The method of claim 1 wherein the back-end state information is associated with an application.

3. The method of claim 1 further comprising receiving a selection of a web page definitional element.

4. The method of claim 3 wherein the selection of the web page definitional element is received via a graphical user interface (GUI).

5. The method of claim 1 further comprising displaying the set of one or more variables in a graphical user interface (GUI).

6. The method of claim 5 further comprising receiving a selection of a selected variable from among the variables comprising the set.

7. The method of claim 6 wherein the selection of the selected variable is received via the GUI.

8. The method of claim 6 further comprising determining automatically an attribute of the web page definitional element to which attribute the selected variable is suitable to be bound.

9. The method of claim 8 further comprising creating a default binding between the attribute and the selected variable.

10. The method of claim 9 further comprising receiving via the GUI a user-indicated binding that is different than the default binding.

11. A method for binding a web page definitional element to a variable comprising:

receiving indication that a variable is to be bound to a web page definitional element; and

automatically creating based at least in part on a characteristic of the variable a default binding to an attribute of the web page definitional element;

wherein the variable is a variable that stores a back-end state information associated with the web page.

12. The method of claim 11 wherein receiving the indication comprises receiving a selection of the variable from among a set of one or more variables available to be bound to the web page definitional element.

13. The method of claim 11 further comprising determining that the characteristic is compatible with the attribute.

14. The method of claim 11 wherein the characteristic comprises a class of the variable.

15. The method of claim 11 the characteristic comprises a data type associated with the variable.

16. A computer system, comprising a processor configured to:

determine that a variable is suitable for binding to at least one attribute of a web page definitional element; and

include the variable, based at least in part on said determination, in a set of one or more variables available to be bound to the web page definitional element;

wherein the variable is a variable that stores a back-end state information associated with the web page.

17. The computer system of claim 16 further comprising a memory coupled to the processor and configured to provide to the processor computer instructions to determine that the variable is suitable and include the variable in the set.

18. The computer system of claim 16 further comprising a computer display device and wherein the processor is further configured to display the set of one or more variables in a graphical user interface (GUI) presented via the computer display device.

19. A computer program product for binding a web page definitional element to a variable, the computer program product being embodied in a computer readable medium and comprising computer instructions for:

determining that a variable is suitable for binding to at least one attribute of a web page definitional element; and

including the variable, based at least in part on said determination, in a set of one or more variables available to be bound to the web page definitional element;

wherein the variable is a variable that stores a back-end state information associated with the web page.
