Abstract

In one example, a content navigation interface apparatus includes display logic for displaying selections for accessing a first entry of a content structure and a second entry of the content structure, wherein the second entry is a sub-entry of the first entry. The apparatus further including selection logic for determining the second entry for display based on a user characteristic (e.g., history, user profile, etc.). The first entry may be associated with a first level of a hierarchical content structure, and the second entry associated with a second level of the hierarchical content structure. In one example, the first entry is associated with a broad content category and the second entry associated with content, such as a media object.

Claims (43)

1. A computing device comprising:

a processor;

a non-transitory computer-readable storage medium for tangibly storing thereon program logic for execution by the processor, the program logic comprising:

accessing logic executed by the processor for accessing a content structure, the content structure comprising:

a first entry;

a second entry, wherein the second entry is a sub-entry of the first entry; and

a third entry, wherein the third entry is a sub-entry of the second entry;

display logic executed by the processor for displaying, within a portion of a user interface (UI), a scrolling icon carousel comprising icons and a content pane, each icon corresponding to one of the first, second and third entry, and having an initial background display within the content pane of said scrolling icon carousel, and the content pane comprising a display of a preview of a portion of content associated with each of the first, second and third entries;

receiving logic executed by the processor for receiving a selection of the icons associated with the first and third entries;

display logic executed by the processor for accessing the content structure and displaying, based on said received selection, the first entry and the third entry together within said UI without displaying the second entry, said display of the first and third entries comprising enlarging the selected icons associated with the first and third entries, wherein display of the third entry comprises at least a partial display, and changing the initial background display for the selected icons from the initial background to a different background;

identification logic executed by the processor for identifying a user characteristic associated with a user viewing the UI; and

determination logic executed by the processor for determining, based on said user characteristic and the third entry, an additional content item to display within said UI.

2. The computing device of claim 1 , wherein the first entry is associated with a first level of a hierarchical content structure, the second entry is associated with a second level of the hierarchical content structure, and the third entry is associated with a third level of the hierarchical content structure.

3. The computing device of claim 1 , wherein the first entry is associated with a content category and the third entry is associated with a media object.

4. The computing device of claim 1 , wherein the user characteristic comprises history data of the user.

5. The computing device of claim 1 , further comprising advertising logic for displaying an advertisement.

6. A method comprising:

determining, by a computing device, a user characteristic;

accessing, by the computing device, a content structure, the content structure comprising:

a first entry;

a second entry, wherein the second entry is a sub-entry of the first entry; and

a third entry, wherein the third entry is a sub-entry of the second entry;

displaying, by the computing device, within a portion of a user interface (UI), a scrolling icon carousel comprising icons and a content pane, each icon corresponding to one of the first, second and third entry, and having an initial background display within the content pane of said scrolling icon carousel, and the content pane comprising a display of a preview of a portion of content associated with each of the first, second and third entries;

receiving, by the computing device, a selection of the icons associated with the first and third entries;

accessing the content structure and displaying, by the computing device, based on said received selection, the first entry and the third entry together within said UI without displaying the second entry, said display of the first and third entries comprising enlarging the selected icons associated with the first and third entries, wherein display of the third entry comprises at least a partial display, and changing the initial background display for the selected icons from the initial background to a different background;

identifying, by the computing device, a user characteristic associated with a user viewing the UI; and

determining, by the computing device, based on said user characteristic and the third entry, an additional content item to display within said UI.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the first entry is associated with a first level of a hierarchical content structure, the second entry is associated with a second level of the hierarchical content structure, and the third entry is associated with a third level of the hierarchical content structure.

8. The method of claim 6 , wherein the first entry is associated with a content category and the third entry is associated with a media object.

9. The method of claim 6 , wherein the user characteristic comprises history data of the user.

10. A non-transitory computer readable storage medium tangibly comprising program code executed by a processor for navigating content, the non-transitory computer readable storage medium comprising program code for:

accessing a content structure, the content structure comprising:

a first entry;

a second entry, wherein the second entry is a sub-entry of the first entry; and

a third entry, wherein the third entry is a sub-entry of the second entry;

displaying within a portion of a user interface (UI), a scrolling icon carousel comprising icons and a content pane, each icon corresponding to one of the first, second and third entry, and having an initial background display within the content pane said scrolling icon carousel, and the content pane comprising a display of a preview of a portion of content associated with each of the first, second and third entries;

receiving a selection of the icons associated with the first and third entries;

accessing the content structure and displaying, based on said received selection, the first entry and the third entry together within said UI without displaying the second entry, said display of the first and third entries comprising enlarging the selected icons associated with the first and third entries, wherein display of the third entry comprises at least a partial display, and changing the initial background display for the selected icons from the initial background to a different background;

identifying a user characteristic associated with a user viewing the UI; and

determining, based on said user characteristic and the third entry, an additional content item to display within said UI.

11. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 10 , wherein the first entry is associated with a first level of a hierarchical content structure, the second entry is associated with a second level of the hierarchical content structure, and the third entry is associated with a third level of the hierarchical content structure.

12. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 10 , wherein the first entry is associated with a content category and the third entry is associated with a media object.

13. The non-transitory computer readable storage medium of claim 10 , wherein the user characteristic comprises history data of the user.
