Abstract

A print media and printing fluid cartridge is provided which is arranged to be removably mounted in juxtaposition to a printer of a digital photofinishing system. The cartridge has a tubular core to which a roll of print media is removably mounted so as to be fed on demand to the printer and within which at least one printing fluid first cartridge is removably located so as to feed printing fluid to the printer on demand, and a print media delivery arrangement for coupling with a print media drive mechanism of the digital photofinishing system so as to feed the print media from the roll on demand.

Claims (20)

1. A print media and printing fluid cartridge, the cartridge being arranged to be removably mounted in juxtaposition to a printer of a digital photofinishing system and comprising:

a tubular core to which a roll of print media is removably mounted so as to be fed on demand to the printer and within which at least one printing fluid first cartridge is removably located so as to feed printing fluid to the printer on demand;

a print media delivery arrangement for coupling with a print media drive mechanism of the digital photofinishing system so as to feed the print media from the roll on demand, the print media delivery arrangement including a drive roller; and

a wall having a door which is arranged to be opened to enable the print media delivery arrangement to couple with the print media drive mechanism,

wherein the print media drive mechanism comprises a pivotal carrier, a first drive motor arranged to impart pivotal drive to the carrier, a primary drive roller mounted to the carrier and arranged to engage the roll of print media when the door in the cartridge is open, a second drive motor arranged to impart rotary drive to the primary roller, and a third drive motor which engages the drive roller of the print media delivery arrangement.

2. A cartridge as claimed in claim 1 , wherein a plurality of the printing fluid first cartridges are removably located in the tubular core so as to feed a plurality of printing fluids to the printer on demand.

3. A cartridge as claimed in claim 1 wherein the printing fluid first cartridge is refillable.

4. A cartridge as claimed in claim 1 wherein the printing fluid first cartridge is arranged so as to feed the printing fluid to a print head assembly of the printer on demand.

5. A cartridge as claimed in claim 1 wherein the tubular core incorporates a bearing arrangement for rotatably supporting the roll of print media.

6. A cartridge as claimed in claim 5 wherein the print media delivery arrangement is arranged to cause said rotation of the roll of print media about the tubular core to feed the print media on demand.

7. A cartridge as claimed in claim 6 wherein the print media delivery arrangement causes said rotation in response to the print media drive mechanism.

8. A cartridge as claimed in claim 7 wherein the print media is fed past a print head assembly of the printer.

9. A cartridge as claimed in claim 8 wherein the print head assembly comprises at least one print head module comprising a unitary arrangement of:

a support member;

at least four micro-electromechanical integrated circuit print head integrated circuits, each of which has a plurality of nozzles to and from which the printing fluid is delivered;

a fluid distribution arrangement mounting each of the print head integrated circuits to the support member; and

a connector for connecting electrical power and signals to each of the print head integrated circuits.

10. A cartridge as claimed in claim 1 wherein the cartridge is removably mounted to a support structure of the digital photofinishing system to which the printer is mounted.

11. A cartridge as claimed in claim 10 wherein the print media drive mechanism is located on the support structure, and the print media delivery arrangement is configured to couple with the print media drive mechanism when the cartridge is mounted to the support structure.

12. A cartridge as claimed in claim 11 wherein the print media delivery arrangement includes a pinch roller.
