Abstract

The present invention relates to compounds and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof and formulations comprising the compounds or a pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof that are useful in modulating lyn kinase activity. In particular, the compounds or a pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof are useful for treating or preventing a disease or disorder including cardiovascular disease, dyslipidemia, dyslipoproteinemia, a disorder of glucose metabolism, metabolic syndrome (i.e., Syndrome X), a peroxisome proliferator activated receptor-associated disorder, septicemia, a thrombotic disorder, type II diabetes, obesity, pancreatitis, hypertension, renal disease, inflammation, or impotence.

Claims (24)

1. A method of reducing blood glucose levels or weight gain or treating type II diabetes, obesity, or metabolic syndrome in a mammal comprising administering to the mammal in need thereof an effective amount of a composition comprising a compound of formula:

wherein R 1 is methyl and n is 1; X is a halogen; and m is 0 or 1, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

2. A method of reducing blood glucose levels or weight gain or treating type II diabetes, obesity, or metabolic syndrome in a mammal comprising administering to the mammal in need thereof an effective amount of a composition comprising a compound of formula:

wherein X is chlorine and m is 1; R 1 is an alkyl group; and n is an integer from 0 to 5, wherein m+n is less than or equal to 5, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

3. A method of reducing blood glucose levels or weight gain or treating type II diabetes, obesity, or metabolic syndrome in a mammal comprising administering to the mammal in need thereof an effective amount of a composition comprising a compound of formula:

wherein R 1 is methyl, and n is 1, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

4. A method of reducing blood glucose levels or weight gain or treating type II diabetes, obesity, or metabolic syndrome in a mammal comprising administering to the mammal in need thereof an effective amount of a composition comprising a compound of formula:

or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

5. A method of reducing blood glucose levels or weight gain or treating type II diabetes, obesity, or metabolic syndrome in a mammal comprising administering to a mammal in need thereof an effective amount of a composition comprising a compound of formula:

wherein X is chloro and m is 1, or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof.

7. The method of claim 1 wherein the method is for reducing blood glucose levels.

8. The method of claim 1 wherein the method is for reducing weight gain.

9. The method of claim 8 wherein the composition further comprises rosiglitazone.

10. The method of claim 1 wherein the method is for treating type II diabetes.

11. The method of claim 1 wherein the method is for treating obesity.

12. The method of claim 1 wherein the method is for treating metabolic syndrome.

13. The method of claim 4 wherein the method is for reducing blood glucose levels.

14. The method of claim 4 wherein the method is for reducing weight gain.

15. The method of claim 14 wherein the composition further comprises rosiglitazone.

16. The method of claim 4 wherein the method is for treating type II diabetes.

17. The method of claim 4 wherein the method is for treating obesity.

18. The method of claim 4 wherein the method is for treating metabolic syndrome.
