Abstract

An apparatus to provide thermal control to a patient comprises a neck member having a surface defining at least one opening, the surface configured to be spaced apart from a neck area of the patient. The neck member includes an air inlet to receive cooled air from an air source. The at least one opening is in fluid communication with the air inlet to direct cooled air from the air source and toward the neck area of the patient to provide the thermal control to the patient.

Claims (8)

1. A method to circulate air within a patient cooling system comprising:

providing an inflatable patient support surface having a manifold system positioned within the inflatable patient support surface;

mounting an air tent to the inflatable patient support surface;

coupling a neck member to the patient support surface wherein the neck member is configured to extend around a user's neck;

providing pressurized, thermally treated air into the manifold system; and

distributing the pressurized, thermally controlled air through the manifold system to the inflatable patient support surface, an inflatable portion of the air tent, and into the enclosed area defined by the air tent above the inflatable patient support surface.

2. The method of claim 1 , including recirculating the air through the manifold system from the patient support surface, the inflatable portion of the air tent, and the enclosed area to conserve energy.

3. The method of claim 1 , including measuring the temperature of the patient for adjustment of the thermal properties of the air.
