Abstract

The present invention provides a black and white photothermographic material having, on a support, an image forming layer including at least a photosensitive silver halide, a non-photosensitive organic silver salt, and a compound represented by the following formula (1): wherein R 101 , R 102 , R 104 , and R 105 each independently represent a hydrogen atom or a substituent; R 103 represents a halogen atom, an alkyl group, an alkoxy group, an aryloxy group, an alkylthio group, an arylthio group, an acylamino group, or a sulfonylamino group; and P represents a group forming a phenol compound represented by formula (2) by cleavage of the O—P bond at the time of thermal development.

Claims (30)

1 . A black and white photothermographic material comprising, on a support, an image forming layer comprising at least a photosensitive silver halide, a non-photosensitive organic silver salt, and a compound represented by the following formula (1):

wherein R 101 , R 102 , R 104 , and R 105 each independently represent a hydrogen atom or a group substituting for a hydrogen atom on a benzene ring; R 101 and R 102 , and R 104 and R 105 may link together to form a condensed ring; R 103 represents one selected from a halogen atom, an alkyl group, an alkoxy group, an aryloxy group, an alkylthio group, an arylthio group, an acylamino group, or a sulfonylamino group; P represents a group forming a phenol compound represented by formula (2) that functions as a development accelerator or a developing agent by cleavage of the O—P bond at the time of thermal development; and P is not a group containing a nitrogen-containing aromatic group;

wherein R 101 , R 102 , R 103 , R 104 , and R 105 each have the same meaning as in formula (1).

2 . The black and white photothermographic material according to claim 1 , wherein P in formula (1) is a group selected from among groups represented by the following formula (P-1), (P-2), (P-3), or (P-4):

wherein R 201 represents one selected from a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an aryl group, or a heterocyclic group; X represents an oxygen atom, a sulfur atom, or N—R 202 ; R 202 represents one selected from an alkyl group, an aryl group, a heterocyclic group, an acyl group, a sulfonyl group, an alkoxycarbonyl group, a carbamoyl group, or a sulfonylamino group; and * denotes a bond with the oxygen atom of the phenol in formula (2) at this position;

wherein R 203 represents one selected from a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an aryl group, a heterocyclic group (provided that a nitrogen atom is not contained), an acyl group, a sulfonyl group, an alkoxycarbonyl group, a carbamoyl group, or a sulfamoyl group; X represents an oxygen atom, a sulfur atom, or N—R 204 ; R 204 represents one selected from an alkyl group, an aryl group, a heterocyclic group, an acyl group, a sulfonyl group, an alkoxycarbonyl group, a carbamoyl group, or a sulfonylamino group; Y represents —O—, —S—, or —NH—; and * denotes a bond with the oxygen atom of the phenol in formula (2) at this position;

wherein R 205 , R 206 , and R 207 each independently represent a hydrogen atom or a substituent; EWG represents a group having a Hammett substituent constant σp of 0.3 or more; and * denotes a bond with the oxygen atom of the phenol in formula (2) at this position;

wherein R 208 and R 209 each independently represent one selected from a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an aryl group, or a heterocyclic group; R 210 represents an alkyl group, an aryl group, or a heterocyclic group; Z represents an oxygen atom or a sulfur atom; and * denotes a bond with the oxygen atom of the phenol in formula (2) at this position.

3 . The black and white photothermographic material according to claim 1 , wherein, in formula (1) and formula (2), R 103 is a group represented by —NHSO 2 R 110 , and R 110 is an alkyl group, an aryl group, or a heterocyclic group.

4 . The black and white photothermographic material according to claim 2 , wherein, in formula (1), R 103 represents a group represented by —NHSO 2 R 110 , R 110 is an alkyl group, an aryl group, or a heterocyclic group, and P represents a group represented by formula (P-2), (P-3), or (P-4).

The black and white photothermographic material according to claim 2 , wherein, in formula (1), R 103 represents a group represented by —NHSO 2 R 110 , R 110 is one selected from an alkyl group, an aryl group, or a heterocyclic group, P represents a group represented by formula (P-1), and R 201 is not a tertiary alkyl group.

6 . The black and white photothermographic material according to claim 1 , wherein, in formula (1), the phenol compound formed at the time of thermal development is a compound represented by the following formula (4):

wherein R 111 represents one selected from an alkoxycarbonyl group, a carbamoyl group, an acyl group, a sulfonyl group, or a sulfamoyl group; R 112 , R 114 , R 115 , R 116 , and R 117 each independently represent a hydrogen atom or a substituent which substitutes for a hydrogen atom on a benzene ring; and R 113 is an alkyl group provided that a group having a Hammett substituent constant σp of 0.3 or more is not substituted on a carbon atom bonded to the oxygen atom.

7 . The black and white photothermographic material according to claim 1 , wherein the photothermographic material comprises at least one reducing agent for silver ions.

8 . The black and white photothermographic material according to claim 7 , wherein the reducing agent for silver ions is a compound represented by the following formula (5):

wherein R 118 , R 119 , R 120 , and R 121 each independently represent a hydrogen atom or a substituent which substitutes for a hydrogen atom on a benzene ring; and R 122 represents an alkyl group, an aryl group, or a heterocyclic group.

9 . The black and white photothermographic material according to claim 1 , wherein the black and white photothermographic material comprises a coupler.

10 . The black and white photothermographic material according to claim 9 , wherein a coloring optical density obtained by the coupler at a maximum absorption wavelength of a color forming dye is higher than an optical density obtained by developed silver.

11 . The black and white photothermographic material according to claim 1 , wherein the photosensitive silver halide has an average silver iodide content of 40 mol % or higher.

12 . The black and white photothermographic material according to claim 11 , wherein the average silver iodide content of the photosensitive silver halide is 80 mol % or higher.

13 . The black and white photothermographic material according to claim 11 , wherein the average silver iodide content of the photosensitive silver halide is 90 mol % or higher.

14 . The black and white photothermographic material according to claim 11 , wherein the photosensitive silver halide comprises tabular grains.

15 . The black and white photothermographic material according to claim 14 , wherein the tabular grains have a mean aspect ratio of from 2 to 100.

16 . The black and white photothermographic material according to claim 11 , wherein the photosensitive silver halide is subjected to gold sensitization.

17 . The black and white photothermographic material according to claim 11 , wherein the photothermographic material comprises a silver iodide complex-forming agent.

18 . The black and white photothermographic material according to claim 1 , wherein the photothermographic material comprises the image forming layer on both sides of the support.

19 . An image forming method of forming a black and white image comprising a composite image of a silver image and a color image by imagewise exposing and thermally developing the black and white photothermographic material according to claim 1 , the image forming method comprising:

1) bringing the black and white photothermographic material into contact with a fluorescent intensifying screen;

2) imagewise exposing the black and white photothermographic material with radiation to record a latent image on the black and white photothermographic material; and

3) thermally developing the black and white photothermographic material to convert the latent image into a visible image by thermal development.
