Abstract

A filler material that includes a metal fluoride compound which is coated with silica. The filler material can be used in various types of covering agents.

Claims (34)

1. A material that includes a metal fluoride compound at least partially coated with a silicon compound, said silicon compound includes silicon dioxide, said material including at least 50 weight percent of said metal fluoride compound and at least 15 weight percent of said silicon compound.

2. The material as defined in claim 1 , wherein said metal fluoride includes calcium.

3. The material as defined in claim 2 , wherein said metal fluoride includes calcium fluoride.

4. The material as defined in claim 3 , wherein said metal fluoride compound constitutes about 65-85 weight percent of said material and said silicon compound constitutes about 15-35 weight percent of said material.

5. The material as defined in claim 4 , wherein said metal fluoride compound constitutes about 65-75 weight percent of said material and said silicon compound constitutes about 25-35 weight percent of said material.

6. The material as defined in claim 5 , wherein said material is white and has a Tappi brightness value of about 84-91.

7. The material as defined in claim 6 , wherein said material has average specific surface area is less than about 120 m 2 /g.

8. The material as defined in claim 1 , wherein said metal fluoride compound constitutes about 65-85 weight percent of said material and said silicon compound constitutes about 15-35 weight percent of said material.

9. The material as defined in claim 8 , wherein said metal fluoride compound constitutes 65-80 weight percent of said material and said silicon compound constitutes 20-35 weight percent of said material.

10. The material as defined in claim 1 , wherein said material is white and has a Tappi brightness value of about 84-91.

11. The material as defined in claim 1 , wherein said material has average specific surface area is less than about 120 m 2 /g.

A material that can be used as a filler, said material including a metal fluoride compound that is coated over a majority of an outer surface of said metal fluoride compound with a silicon compound, said metal fluoride compound including calcium fluoride, said silicon compound including silicon dioxide, said material including at least 50 weight percent of said metal fluoride compound and at least 15 weight percent of said silicon compound.

13. The material as defined in claim 12 , wherein said metal fluoride includes at least about 70 weight percent calcium fluoride.

14. The material as defined in claim 13 , wherein said metal fluoride includes at least about 99 weight percent calcium fluoride.

15. The material as defined in claim 14 , wherein said silicon compound is silicon dioxide.

16. The material as defined in claim 15 , wherein said metal fluoride compound constitutes about 50-99.9 weight percent of said material and said silicon compound constitutes 15-50 weight percent of said material.

17. The material as defined in claim 16 , wherein at least 80 percent of said outer surface of said metal fluoride compound is coated with said silicon compound.

18. The material as defined in claim 12 , wherein said silicon compound is silicon dioxide.

19. The material as defined in claim 18 , wherein said metal fluoride compound constitutes about 50-99.9 weight percent of said material and said silicon compound constitutes 15-50 weight percent of said material.

20. The material as defined in claim 19 , wherein at least 80 percent of said outer surface of said metal fluoride compound is coated with said silicon compound.

21. The material as defined in claim 12 , wherein said metal fluoride compound constitutes about 50-99.9 weight percent of said material and said silicon compound constitutes 15-50 weight percent of said material.

22. The material as defined in claim 21 , wherein said metal fluoride compound constitutes about 60-80 weight percent of said material and said silicon compound constitutes about 20-40 weight percent of said material.

23. The material as defined in claim 22 , wherein said metal fluoride compound constitutes about 65-75 weight percent of said material and said silicon compound constitutes about 25-35 weight percent of said material.

24. The material as defined in claim 12 , wherein at least 80 percent of said outer surface of said metal fluoride compound is coated with said silicon compound.

25. The material as defined in claim 12 , wherein an average particle size of said material is less than about 100 microns.

26. The material as defined in claim 12 , wherein said material is white and has a Tappi brightness value of about 84-91.

27. The material as defined in claim 12 , wherein said material has average specific surface area of about 70-120 m 2 /g.

28. A material that can be used as a filler, said material including a metal fluoride compound that is at least partially coated with silicon dioxide, said metal fluoride compound including calcium fluoride, a majority of an outer surface of said metal fluoride compound is coated with said silicon dioxide, said metal fluoride compound constituting about 50-99.9 weight percent of said material and said silicon dioxide constituting about 0.1-50 weight percent of said material, said material having an average particle size of less than about 100 microns.

29. The material as defined in claim 28 , wherein said material is white and has a Tappi brightness value of about 84-91.

30. The material as defined in claim 29 , wherein said material has average specific surface area of about 70-120 m 2 /g.

31. A material that can be used as a filler, said material including a metal fluoride compound that is at least partially coated with silicon dioxide, said metal fluoride compound including at least about 99 weight percent calcium fluoride, a majority of an outer surface of said metal fluoride compound is coated with said silicon dioxide, said metal fluoride compound constituting about 50-99.9 weight percent of said material and said silicon dioxide constituting about 0.1-50 weight percent of said material, said material having an average particle size of less than about 100 microns.

32. The material as defined in claim 31 , wherein said material is white and has a Tappi brightness value of about 84-91.

33. The material as defined in claim 32 , wherein said material has average specific surface area of about 70-120 m 2 /g.

34. A material that can be used as a filler, said material including a metal fluoride compound that is at least partially coated with a silicon compound, said metal fluoride compound including calcium fluoride, said silicon compound including silicon dioxide, said material having an average particle size of about 5-30 microns.
