Abstract

Pharmaceutical composition which comprises an insulin sensitivity enhancer in combination with other antidiabetics differing from the enhancer in the mechanism of action, which shows a potent depressive effect on diabetic hyperglycemia and is useful for prophylaxis and treatment of diabetes.

Claims (21)

1. A pharmaceutical composition which comprises:

1) pioglitazone or a pharmacologically acceptable salt thereof;

2) glimepiride; and

3) a physiologically acceptable carrier.

2. The pharmaceutical composition according to claim 1 , which is in an oral dosage form.

3. The pharmaceutical composition according to claim 1 , which is in the form of a tablet.

4. The pharmaceutical composition according to claim 1 , which comprises pioglitazone or a pharmacologically acceptable salt thereof at the oral dose range from 0.05 to 5 mg/kg body weight.

5. The pharmaceutical composition according to claim 1 , which is for administration at the frequency of 1 to 3 times a day.

6. The pharmaceutical composition according to claim 1 , which comprises:

1) pioglitazone or a pharmacologically acceptable salt thereof;

2) glimepiride;

3) an excipient;

4) a disintegrator;

5) a binder; and

6) a lubricant.

7. The pharmaceutical composition according to claim 6 , wherein the excipient is lactose.

8. The pharmaceutical composition according to claim 6 , wherein the binder is hydroxypropylcellulose.

9. The pharmaceutical composition according to claim 6 , wherein the lubricant is magnesium stearate.

10. The pharmaceutical composition according to claim 6 , which is manufactured by

adding the excipient, the disintegrator, the binder and the lubricant to pioglitazone or a pharmacologically acceptable salt thereof and glimepiride; and then

compressing the resultant.
