Ergonomic plastic container and package system
A packing that includes a bottle and/or a bottle and box combination wherein the container may have a first handle portion, a second handle portion, and a bottom grip portion. The first handle portion can extend in a front to back direction and the second handle portion can extend in a transverse direction to the first handle portion. The bottom grip may include a protrusion and recess on the bottom of the container. The box can be configured to have openings to provide access to the first and second handle portions such that the container need not be removed from the box to utilize the contents contained therein. The box may also include a bottom opening and a push-up portion to provide access to the bottom grip portion.
1. A container comprising:
a top;
a bottom;
sides extending from the top to the bottom and comprising a front side and a back side at a front and back of the container, respectively;
a spout;
a first handle portion on the top and extending generally in a direction front to back; and
a second handle portion on the top and extending in a direction transverse to the first handle portion;
wherein the second handle portion is configured to be grasped by one hand.
2. The container according to claim 1 , further comprising a bottom grip on the bottom of the container.
3. The container according to claim 1 , wherein the spout is disposed on the top of the container.
4. The container according to claim 1 , wherein the spout is disposed at or near the front side.
5. The container according to claim 1 , wherein the second handle portion is disposed at or near the back side.
6. The container according to claim 4 , wherein the first handle portion and the second handle portion are connected to form a T-shape.
7. The container according to claim 6 , wherein a width of the second handle portion in the direction transverse to the first handle portion is sized so as to be grasped with a thumb of a person's hand from a side of the second handle portion while simultaneously being grasped by the remaining fingers of the person's hand over a top of the second handle portion.
8. The container according to claim 6 , wherein a width of the second handle portion in the direction transverse to the first handle portion ranges from about ¼ to ¾ of a width of the back side.
9. The container according to claim 6 , wherein a width of the second handle portion in the direction transverse to the first handle portion ranges from about ⅓ to ½ of a width of the back side.
10. The container according to claim 6 , wherein a width of the second handle portion in the direction transverse to the first handle portion ranges from about 2-4 inches.
11. The container according to claim 6 , wherein a width of the second handle portion in the direction transverse to the first handle portion is about 3 inches.
12. The container according to claim 6 , wherein the second handle portion has a curved profile when viewed from a side of the container in the direction transverse to the first handle portion, the curved profile extending towards the front of the container so as to permit a persons fingers to wrap around and securely grip the second handle portion.
13. The container according to claim 6 , wherein the first handle portion has a narrowed neck portion adjacent to the second handle portion for receiving fingers when the second handle portion is gripped.
14. The container according to claim 2 , wherein the bottom grip comprises an indentation on the bottom of the container, the indentation extending in a direction parallel to second handle portion.
15. The container according to claim 2 , wherein the bottom grip comprises a protrusion extending from a surface of the bottom of the container, the protrusion extending in a direction parallel to second handle portion.
16. The container according to claim 1 , wherein the second handle portion has a curved profile when viewed from a side of the container in the direction transverse to the first handle portion, the curved profile extending towards the front of the container so as to permit a persons fingers to wrap around and securely grip the second handle portion.
17. The container according to claim 16 , wherein the first handle portion and the second handle portion are connected to form a T-shape; and
wherein the first handle portion has a narrowed neck portion adjacent to the second handle portion for receiving fingers when the second handle portion is gripped.
18. The container according to claim 17 , further comprising a bottom grip on the bottom of the container;
wherein the bottom grip comprises an indentation on the bottom of the container, the indentation extending in a direction parallel to second handle portion.
19. The container according to claim 18 , wherein the spout is disposed at or near the front side; and
wherein the second handle portion is disposed at or near the back side.
20. A method of using a container, the method comprising:
providing a container according to claim 1 ;
grasping the second handle portion with one hand;
grasping the bottom grip with another hand; and
tilting the container by pushing upwards on the bottom grip to empty the contents from the container.
21. A packaging comprising:
a container in a box;
the container comprising:
a top;
a bottom;
sides extending from the top to the bottom and comprising a front side and a back side at a front and back of the container respectively;
a spout;
a first handle portion on the top and extending generally in a direction front to back;
a second handle portion on the top and extending in a direction transverse to the first handle portion, wherein the second handle portion is configured to be grasped by one hand; and
a grip for manually gripping on the bottom of the container;
and
the box comprising:
a top cover, a bottom cover and side portions, including a front side and a back side;
one or more openings on the top cover that exposes the spout for pouring the contents of the container and for accessing the second handle portion so that the second handle portion is accessible for manually gripping while inside the box; and
an opening in the bottom cover that exposes the bottom grip.
22. The packaging according to claim 21 , wherein there is a separate opening on the top cover for each of the spout and the second handle portion.
23. The packaging according to claim 21 , wherein the spout includes a neck extending from the container and the top cover opening includes a notch in the front side of the box to expose at least a portion of the neck.
24. The packaging according to claim 21 , further comprising a push up portion connected to the bottom cover of the box and disposed within the opening in the bottom cover that provides a smooth edge when gripping the grip.
25. The container of claim 21 , wherein container comprises eight sides extending from the top to the bottom and wherein the box comprises eight side portions extending from the top cover to the bottom cover.
26. The container of claim 21 , wherein the sides extending from the top to the bottom comprise:
the front side, the back side, a right and left side at the right and left of the container respectively; and
wherein at least two sides selected from: the front side, the back side, the right side, and the left side are connected by a chamfer portion.
27. The packaging of claim 21 , wherein the first handle portion and the second handle portion are connected to form a T-shape.
28. A packaging comprising:
a container in a box;
the container comprising:
a top;
a bottom;
sides extending from the top to the bottom and comprising a front side and a back side at a front and back of the container, respectively;
a spout;
a first handle portion on the top and extending generally in a direction front to back;
a second handle portion on the top and extending in a direction transverse to the first handle portion, wherein the second handle portion is configured to be grasped by one hand; and
a grip for manually gripping on the bottom of the container;
and
the box comprising:
a top cover, a bottom cover and side portions extending from the top cover to the bottom cover;
one or more perforated portions on the top cover that are removable to create one or more openings on the top cover that expose the spout for pouring the contents of the container and for accessing the second handle portion of handle so that the second portion of the handle can be manually gripped while confined in the box; and
a perforated portion in the bottom cover that is removable to expose an opening in the bottom cover that expose the bottom grip.
29. A packaging comprising:
a container in a box;
the container comprising:
a top;
a bottom;
sides extending from the top to the bottom and comprising a front side and a back side at a front and back of the container respectively, and flat planar side portions disposed between each side of the front side and the back side so as to intersect at an angle greater than 900 with front side and back side, respectively;
and
the box comprising:
a top cover, a bottom cover and side portions, including a box front side and a box back side at a front and back of the box respectively, and flat box planar side portions disposed between each side of the box front side and the box back side so as to intersect at an angle greater than 90° with the box front side and the box back side, respectively.
30. The packaging of claim 29 , wherein the flat planar side portions and the flat box planar side portions are chamfered corners to permit the container surface to contact the box surface.
