Abstract

A method of grouping content requests by one or more behaviors is provided. Each content request is labeled. Sessions for various user and service types are defined. The sessions are then modeled to create representative sessions. Each session is then matched with one or more representative sessions.

Claims (61)

1. A method of grouping content requests by one or more behaviors, comprising:

labeling each content request;

defining a plurality of session types for various user and service types;

modeling the plurality of session types to create a plurality of representative sessions, wherein each representative session of the plurality of representative sessions corresponds to a particular session type of the plurality of session types;

matching each new session with one or more representative sessions of said plurality of representative sessions; and

admitting and dispatching content requests of said each new session based on the one or more representative sessions matched to said each new session.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein labeling each content request includes labeling each content request by clustering.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein labeling each content request includes labeling each content request by mix.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein labeling each content request includes labeling each content request by capacity.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein labeling each content request includes labeling each content request by quality of service objectives of a particular user.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein said quality of service objectives include speed of content request delivery for a specified time.

7. The method of claim 5 , wherein said quality of service objectives include consistency of speed of content request delivery.

8. The method of claim 5 , wherein said quality of service objectives include a function of a number of concurrent users.

9. The method of claim 5 , wherein said quality of service objectives include system response time.

10. The method of claim 5 , wherein said quality of service objectives include system response time consistency.

11. The method of claim 1 , wherein at least one representative session of the plurality of representative sessions is a characterization of a group of content requests in terms of common properties.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein the common properties are behavior properties.

13. The method of claim 11 , wherein the common properties are statistical properties.

14. The method of claim 12 , wherein the behavior properties are capacity usage.

15. The method of claim 12 , wherein the behavior properties include time required to process the content request.

16. The method of claim 12 , wherein the behavior properties include an amount of capacity required to process the content request.

17. The method of claim 12 , wherein the behavior properties include a number of database interactions of the content request.

18. The method of claim 12 , wherein the behavior properties include an amount of response time required to process a content request.

19. The method of claim 1 , wherein at least one of said each content request is a URL.

20. The method of claim 19 , wherein at least one of said each new sessions is a group of URLs.

21. The method of claim 1 , wherein each new session is one or more content requests.

22. The method of claim 1 , wherein at least one of said each new sessions is one or more content requests from a single requester.

23. The method of claim 22 , wherein the requester is a human being.

24. The method of claim 22 , wherein the requester is a machine.

25. The method of claim 20 , wherein at least one session type of the plurality of session types is defined by its service type.

26. The method of claim 20 , wherein at least one session type of the plurality of session types is defined by the number and type of content requests it contains.

27. The method of claim 26 , wherein at least one session type of the plurality of session types is defined by content requests requested by a given browser.

28. The method of claim 1 , wherein at least one of said each content request is labeled accordingly to the content request's behavior characteristics under specific application, traffic, load, and information system conditions.

29. A machine-readable storage medium storing one or more sequences of instructions which, when executed by one or more processors, causes the one or more processors to perform the method recited in claim 1 .

30. A machine-readable storage medium storing one or more sequences of instructions which, when executed by one or more processors, causes the one or more processors to perform the method recited in claim 2 .

31. A machine-readable storage medium storing one or more sequences of instructions which, when executed by one or more processors, causes the one or more processors to perform the method recited in claim 3 .

32. A machine-readable storage medium storing one or more sequences of instructions which, when executed by one or more processors, causes the one or more processors to perform the method recited in claim 4 .

33. A machine-readable storage medium storing one or more sequences of instructions which, when executed by one or more processors, causes the one or more processors to perform the method recited in claim 5 .

34. A machine-readable storage medium storing one or more sequences of instructions which, when executed by one or more processors, causes the one or more processors to perform the method recited in claim 6 .

35. A machine-readable storage medium storing one or more sequences of instructions which, when executed by one or more processors, causes the one or more processors to perform the method recited in claim 7 .

36. A machine-readable storage medium storing one or more sequences of instructions which, when executed by one or more processors, causes the one or more processors to perform the method recited in claim 8 .

37. A machine-readable storage medium storing one or more sequences of instructions which, when executed by one or more processors, causes the one or more processors to perform the method recited in claim 9 .

38. A machine-readable storage medium storing one or more sequences of instructions which, when executed by one or more processors, causes the one or more processors to perform the method recited in claim 10 .

39. A machine-readable storage medium storing one or more sequences of instructions which, when executed by one or more processors, causes the one or more processors to perform the method recited in claim 11 .

40. A machine-readable storage medium storing one or more sequences of instructions which, when executed by one or more processors, causes the one or more processors to perform the method recited in claim 12 .

41. A machine-readable storage medium storing one or more sequences of instructions which, when executed by one or more processors, causes the one or more processors to perform the method recited in claim 13 .

42. A machine-readable storage medium storing one or more sequences of instructions which, when executed by one or more processors, causes the one or more processors to perform the method recited in claim 14 .

43. A machine-readable storage medium storing one or more sequences of instructions which, when executed by one or more processors, causes the one or more processors to perform the method recited in claim 15 .

44. A machine-readable storage medium storing one or more sequences of instructions which, when executed by one or more processors, causes the one or more processors to perform the method recited in claim 16 .

45. A machine-readable storage medium storing one or more sequences of instructions which, when executed by one or more processors, causes the one or more processors to perform the method recited in claim 17 .

46. A machine-readable storage medium storing one or more sequences of instructions which, when executed by one or more processors, causes the one or more processors to perform the method recited in claim 18 .

47. A machine-readable storage medium storing one or more sequences of instructions which, when executed by one or more processors, causes the one or more processors to perform the method recited in claim 19 .

48. A machine-readable storage medium storing one or more sequences of instructions which, when executed by one or more processors, causes the one or more processors to perform the method recited in claim 20 .
