Abstract

The invention described herein relates to aiding a Satellite Positioning System (SPS) receiver of a platform with a data interface to the platform data. The platform, for example, could be a vehicle, ship, aircraft, or a pedestrian. The SPS receiver would be used to track the location of the platform. The data interface would facilitate access by the SPS receiver to the data of the platform, and the SPS receiver in turn could provide SPS data (such as position, speed, and heading) to the platform. A further aspect of the invention includes hardware or software used by the data interface and the SPS receiver to provide, format, time-stamp, synchronize, and match platform data or SPS receiver data.

Claims (6)

1. A system for an automobile comprising:

an OBD-II bus configured to carry dead reckoning data from vehicle sensors including wheel speed sensors and a reverse sensor;

a satellite positioning system (SPS) receiver; and

a data interface between the OBD-II bus and the SPS receiver, wherein the SPS receiver receives the dead-reckoning data from the OBD-II bus through the data interface and uses this dead-reckoning data to aid in a determination of a location for the automobile, wherein the SPS receiver is configured to use dead reckoning data from the wheel speed sensors to determine a heading for the vehicle.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the OBD-II bus receives SPS data from the SPS receiver via the data interface.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the data interface is a wire.
