Abstract

A web of print media dispensable as individual sheets along lines of perforation includes a pattern of ties and slits that provide a more predictable resistance to manually separating the sheets from the web. The lines of perforation extend transversely with respect to a longitudinal dimension of the web and cross a longitudinal centerline between two edges of the web. The ties are weaker near the centerline of the web than near either of the two edges sufficient to relatively increase resistance to tearing along the lines of perforation starting near either of the two edges while relatively decreasing resistance to tearing along the same lines of perforation starting near the centerline of the web.

Claims (26)

1. An in-line supply of a print media that can be entirely separated and individually dispensed in succession, comprising:

a web of flexible, non-elastic, printable media having a transverse dimension and a longitudinal dimension and having regularly spaced lines of perforation for separating the web into individually dispensable sheets, the lines of perforation extending transversely with respect to the longitudinal dimension of the web and crossing a longitudinal centerline between first and second edges of the web, the web comprising folds in the transverse dimension along the lines of perforation; and

a pattern of ties separated by slits extending along each of the lines of perforation, wherein the pattern of ties extending along the lines of perforation includes a first and second groups of ties respectively located adjacent to the first and second edges of the web, and a third group of ties located intermediate the first and second groups of ties and overlying the centerline of the web, wherein the slit between the first and third groups of ties and the slit between the second and third groups of ties are both larger than the slit between the ties in the third group;

wherein the ties in the first group occupy a first percentage of the distance from the first edge of the web to the tie in the third group closest to the first edge of the web, the ties in the second group occupy a second percentage of the distance from the second edge of the web to the tie in the third group of ties that is closest to the second edge of the web, and the ties in the third group occupy a third percentage of the distance from the tie in the first group that is located closest to the second edge of the web to the tie in the second group that is located closest to the first edge of the web; and

wherein each of the first and second percentages is larger than the third percentage.

2. The print media of claim 1 in which the web has front and back surfaces and is coated on its front surface with a thermosensitive material that forms images in response to the application of heat in patterns.

3. The print media of claim 2 in which a back side of the web is printed with a repeating pattern between the regularly spaced lines of perforation.

4. The print media of claim 1 in which there are at least two ties in each of the first and second groups, and in which there are at least two ties in the third group.

5. The print media of claim 4 in which there are exactly two ties in each of the first and second groups, and in which there are exactly two ties in the third group.

6. An in-line supply of a print media that can be entirely separated and individually dispensed in succession, comprising:

a web of flexible, non-elastic, printable media having regularly spaced lines of perforation for separating the web into individually dispensable sheets, the lines of perforation extending transversely between first and second edges of the web, the web being folded along the lines of perforation; and

a pattern of ties separated by slits extending along each of the lines of perforation, each pattern of ties including first and second groups of ties respectively located adjacent to the first and second edges of the web and a third group of ties located intermediate the first and second groups of ties;

wherein the slits between each of the third group of ties and the first group of ties and the third group of ties and the second group of ties are larger; than the remaining slits within each line of perforation:

wherein the ties in the first group occupy a first percentage of the distance from the first edge of the web to the tie in the third group closest to the first edge of the web, the ties in the second group occupy a second percentage of the distance from the second edge of the web to the tie in the third group of ties that is closest to the second edge of the web, and the ties in the third group occupy a third percentage of the distance from the tie in the first group that is located closest to the second edge of the web to the tie in the second group that is located closest to the first edge of the web; and

wherein each of the first and second percentages is larger than the third percentage.

7. The print media of claim 6 in which the web has front and back surfaces and is coated on its front surface with a thermosensitive material that forms images in response to the application of heat in patterns.

8. The print media of claim 7 in which a back side of the web is printed with a repeating pattern between the regularly spaced lines of perforation.

9. The print media of claim 6 in which there are at least two ties in each of the first and second groups, and in which there are at least two ties in the third group.

10. The print media of claim 9 in which there are exactly two ties in each of the first and second groups, and in which there are exactly two ties in the third group.

11. An in-line supply of a print media that can be entirely separated and individually dispensed in succession, comprising:

a web of flexible, non-elastic, printable media having regularly spaced lines of perforation for separating the web into individually dispensable sheets, the lines of perforation extending transversely between first and second edges of the web, the web further comprising a longitudinal centerline between first and second edges of the web, the web being folded along the lines of perforation; and

a pattern of ties separated by slits extending along each of the lines of perforation, each pattern of ties including first and second groups of ties respectively located adjacent to the first and second edges of the web and a third group of ties located intermediate the first and second groups of ties, and wherein there are at least two ties in each of the first, second, and third groups, and wherein the slits between each of the third group of ties and the first group of ties and the third group of ties and the second group of ties are larger than the remaining slits within each line of perforation; wherein the ties in the first group occupy a first percentage of the distance from the first edge of the web to the tie in the third group closest to the first edge of the web, the ties in the second group occupy a second percentage of the distance from the second edge of the web to the tie in the third group of ties that is closest to the second edge of the web, and the ties in the third group occupy a third percentage of the distance from the tie in the first group that is located closest to the second edge of the web to the tie in the second group that is located closest to the first edge of the web; and

wherein each of the first and second percentages is larger than the third percentage.

12. The print media of claim 11 in which the web has front and back surfaces and is coated on its front surface with a thermosensitive material that forms images in response to the application of heat in patterns.

13. The print media of claim 12 in which a back side of the web is printed with a repeating pattern between the regularly spaced lines of perforation.

14. The print media of claim 11 in which there are exactly two ties in each of the first and second groups, and in which there are exactly two ties in the third group.
