Abstract

A method and system for receiving a beacon signal includes a splitter that divides a beacon signal into a first beacon signal and a second beacon signal. The system includes a pair of downconverters down converting the beacon signals into down converted signals. A pair of beacon receivers receives the two downconverted signals and a controller communicates with the first beacon receiver and the second beacon receiver through a first connection and a second connection. Upon interruption of the first connection, the second connection is used for communicating the beacon signals.

Claims (42)

1. A method of receiving a beacon signal comprising:

receiving a beacon signal;

dividing the beacon signal into a first beacon signal and a second beacon signal;

downconverting the first beacon signal at a first downconverter to form a first downconverted signal;

downconverting the second beacon signal at a second downconverter to form a second downconverted signal;

communicating the first downconverted signal to a first beacon receiver;

generating a first receiver signal at the first beacon receiver;

communicating the second downconverted signal to a second beacon receiver;

generating a second receiver signal at the second beacon receiver;

communicating the first receiver signal and the second receiver signal to a controller; and

determining an uplink power from the first receiver signal and the second receiver signal.

2. A method as recited in claim 1 wherein dividing the beacon signal comprises dividing the beacon signal at a monopulse plate.

3. A method as recited in claim 1 wherein the first beacon receiver is disposed in an indoor portion.

4. A method as recited in claim 1 wherein the second beacon receiver is disposed in an indoor portion.

5. A method as recited in claim 1 wherein communicating the first downconverted signal to a first beacon receiver comprises communicating the first downconverted signal to the first beacon receiver through a communication line at L-band.

6. A method as recited in claim 1 wherein communicating the first receiver signal and the second receiver signal comprises serially communicating.

7. A method as recited in claim 1 wherein communicating the first receiver signal and the second receiver signal comprises communicating the first receiver signal and the second receiver signal through a first connection until the first connection fails then through a second connection.

8. A method as recited in claim 1 wherein the first connection comprises a serial connection.

9. A method as recited in claim 1 wherein the second connection comprises an Ethernet connection.

10. A method as recited in claim 1 wherein the second connection comprises an Ethernet connection through an antenna control unit.

11. A system comprising:

a first connection to a controller;

a second connection to the controller;

a first beacon receiver generating a first beacon receiver signal;

a second beacon receiver generating a second beacon receiver signal; and

said controller coupled to the first beacon receiver and the second beacon receiver through the first connection until the first connection fails, then through the second connection after the first connection fails.

12. A method as recited in claim 11 wherein the first connection comprises a serial connection.

13. A method as recited in claim 11 wherein the second connection comprises an Ethernet connection.

14. A method as recited in claim 11 wherein the second connection comprises an Ethernet connection through an antenna control unit.

15. A system comprising:

a splitter dividing a received beacon signal into a first beacon signal and a second beacon signal;

a first downconverter downconverting the first beacon signal to a first downconverted signal;

a second downconverter downconverting the second beacon signal to a second downconverted signal;

a first beacon receiver receiving the first downconverted signal and generating a first receiver signal;

a second beacon receiver receiving the second downconverted signal and generating a second receiver signal; and

a controller in communication with the first beacon receiver and the second beacon receiver through a first connection and a second connection, said controller receiving the first receiver signal and the second receiver signal through the first connection until the first connection fails then through the second connection, said controller determining an uplink power from the first receiver signal and the second receiver signal.

16. A system as recited in claim 15 wherein the splitter comprises a monopulse plate.

17. A system as recited in claim 15 wherein the splitter, first downconverter and the second downconverter are disposed in an outdoor portion and the first beacon receiver and the second bacon receiver are disposed in an indoor portion.

18. A system as recited in claim 17 wherein the outdoor portion is disposed within an antenna hub housing.

19. A system as recited in claim 15 wherein the first connection comprises a serial connection.

20. A system as recited in claim 15 wherein the second connection comprises an Ethernet connection.

21. A method as recited in claim 15 wherein the second connection comprises an Ethernet connection through an antenna control unit.
