Abstract

An improved penetrating tissue system is provided that reduces pain when penetrating tissue by providing controlled depth and velocity of penetration, stimulation and pressure to the targeted tissue without breaching a sterile environment. The system has user interfaces, human interfaces and low volume sample chambers.

Claims (17)

1. A body fluid sampling system for use on a tissue site, the system comprising:

a controllable electromagnetic based penetrating member driver;

a plurality of penetrating members housed in or on a cartridge; and

a transport mechanism configured to carry the plurality of penetrating members on top of a belt, and move the plurality of penetrating members in its entirety to a position for one of the penetrating members to be aligned with the controllable electromagnetic based penetrating member driver to drive the penetrating member along a path into the tissue site, wherein each of a penetrating member is operatively engaged with the penetrating member driver when moved into position by the transport mechanism.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the transport mechanism has a configuration selected from at least one of a disk, a drum, a bandolier and a magazine.

3. A body fluid sampling system for use on a tissue site, the system comprising:

a controllable electromagnetic drive force generator;

a penetrating member operatively coupled to said force generator, housed in or on a cartridge; said force generator moving said member along a path out of a housing having the penetrating member exit; into said tissue site, stopping in said tissue site, and withdrawing out of said tissue site; and

a tissue stabilizer device suitable for stretching a surface of a tissue site, said tissue stabilizer at least partially surrounding the penetrating member exit;

a transport mechanism configured to carry the penetrating member on top of a belt, and move the penetrating member to a position for the penetrating member to be aligned with the controllable electromagnetic drive force generator to drive the penetrating member along a path into the tissue site, wherein each of the penetrating member is operatively engaged with the controllable electromagnetic drive force generator when moved into position by the transport mechanism.

4. The system of claim 3 , wherein the transport mechanism has a configuration selected from at least one of a disk, a drum, a bandolier and a magazine.

5. A body fluid sampling system for use on a tissue site, the system comprising:

a controllable electromagnetic drive force generator;

a penetrating member operatively coupled to said force generator and housed in or on a cartridge, said force generator moving said member along a path out of a housing having the penetrating member exit, into said tissue site, stopping in said tissue site, and withdrawing out of said tissue site; and

a pressure applicator coupled to the housing;

a transport mechanism configured to carry the penetrating member on top of a belt, and move the penetrating member to a position for the penetrating member to be aligned with the controllable electromagnetic drive force generator to drive the penetrating member along a path into the tissue site, wherein the penetrating member is operatively engaged with the controllable electromagnetic drive force generator when moved into position by the transport mechanism.

6. The system of claim 5 , wherein the transport mechanism has a configuration selected from at least one of a disk, a drum, a bandolier and a magazine.
