Abstract

A pair of lugs in an opening of a grinding head of a grinding machine and a pair of corresponding openings in an orifice plate of a grinding machine are disclosed to properly orient the plate in the head during assembly. The lugs are preferably of two different sizes so that the orifice plate will only fit into the head in one orientation. The lugs may differ in size such that the person assembling the grinding machine will be able to visualize the correct orientation based on the size of the lugs and corresponding openings.

Claims (6)

1. A grinding machine comprising a grinding head and an orifice plate, wherein the grinding head is provided with a pair of lugs and the orifice plate is provided with a pair of recesses, wherein each lug is a different size and each recess corresponds in size to one of the lugs but not the other, wherein engagement of the lugs and the recesses positions the orifice plate in a single predetermined orientation in the grinding head, wherein the pair of lugs remain seated in the pair of recesses during operation of the grinding machine.

2. The grinding machine of claim 1 , further comprising a collection member having a collection cavity located downstream from the orifice plate, wherein the orifice plate has an inner section having collection passages, and including positioning means that functions to position the collection member relative to the orifice plate such that the collection passages are in communication with the collection cavity.

3. The grinding machine of claim 2 , wherein the inner section of the orifice plate has at least one secondary orifice portion separate from the collection passages, and wherein the positioning means further functions to position the at least one secondary orifice portion so that it is not in communication with the collection cavity.

4. A method of assembling a grinding machine comprising a grinding head and an orifice plate, including the steps of providing a pair of lugs of two different sizes on one of the grinding head and the orifice plate, and a pair of recesses of two different sizes in the other of the grinding head and the orifice plate, wherein the sizes of the recesses correspond to the sizes of the lugs, and assembling the grinding machine so that the lugs match with and fit into the recesses, wherein the lugs and the recesses prevent rotation of the orifice plate during operation, and wherein the different sizes of the lugs and the recesses enable the orifice plate to be assembled to the grinding head only in a single predetermined orientation.

5. A grinding machine comprising a grinding housing having a downstream opening and an orifice plate adapted to be assembled to the grinding housing within the downstream opening, wherein the grinding housing and the orifice plate include mating engagement structure configured to enable assembly of the orifice plate to the grinding housing in a single predetermined orientation and remain engaged when the orifice plate is mounted in the grinding head, wherein the mating engagement structure comprises a pair of differently sized recesses and a pair of differently sized lugs, wherein one of the lugs is configured to be received in one of the recesses but not in the other of the recesses so as to enable the orifice plate to be assembled in the predetermined orientation.

6. The grinding machine of claim 5 , wherein the pair of recesses are formed in the orifice plate and the pair of lugs are located on the grinding housing.
