Abstract

Facilitating transactions using non-traditional devices and biometric data to activate a transaction device is disclosed. A transaction request is formed at a non-traditional device, and communicated to a reader, wherein the non-traditional device may be configured with an RFID device. The RFID device is not operable until a biometric voice analysis has been executed to verify that the carrier of the RFID equipped non-traditional device is the true owner of account information stored thereon. The non-traditional device provides a conduit between a user and a verification system to perform biometric voice analysis of the user. When the verification system has determined that the user is the true owner of one or more accounts stored at the verification system, a purchase transaction is facilitated between the verification system. Transactions may further be carried out through a non-RF device such as a cellular telephone in direct communication with an acquirer/issuer or payment processor.

Claims (39)

1. A method including:

causing, by a transaction device for facilitating a purchase transaction, an activation request to be sent to a verification system, wherein said activation request includes an identifier of a user;

receiving, by said transaction device, a prompt to recite an audio pass phrase spoken by said user into said transaction device;

transmitting, by said transaction device, said audio pass phrase to said verification system;

receiving, by said transaction device and from said verification system, account information in response to said audio pass phrase and a voiceprint template matching, wherein said account information includes an account number;

wirelessly transmitting, by said transaction device, at least said account information to an RFID device in response to said account information being received; and

wirelessly communicating, by said RFID device, at least said account information to a reader to facilitate said purchase transaction.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein said wirelessly transmitting at least said account information to said RFID device comprises forming a transaction request comprising at least one of transaction information, a random number, an authentication tag, a counter, and an encrypted payload.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein said transaction device is at least one of: a cell phone, a PDA, or an electronic handheld device.

4. The method of claim 2 , wherein said forming said transaction request further comprises communicating an authentication factor.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein said RFID device communicates using an RF protocol.

6. The method of claim 2 , wherein said forming said transaction request comprises forming said transaction request in at least one of ISO 14443 format and Near Field Communication format.

7. The method of claim 2 , wherein said transaction request is received at a merchant system from said RFID device, and wherein said merchant system forms a purchase authorization request comprising information from said transaction request and communicates said purchase authorization request to a third party.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein said merchant system places at least a subset of said transaction request into a cryptogram field in said purchase authorization request.

9. The method of claim 7 , wherein said merchant system receives transaction authorization from said third party.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein said merchant system submits said transaction authorization to an issuer to facilitate processing said transaction request.

11. The method of claim 7 , wherein said merchant system communicates billing information to at least one of an issuer, a processor, a parent carrier, a phone carrier, and said user.

12. The method of claim 1 , wherein a phone number of a cellular phone is linked to the account number used to facilitate said purchase transaction.

13. The method of claim 1 , wherein said transaction device is a cellular telephone in direct communication with at least one of an acquirer, issuer, and payment processor.

14. A plurality of computer readable storage media comprising:

a first non-transitory, tangible computer readable storage medium having instructions stored thereon that, in response to execution by a transaction device for facilitating a purchase transaction, cause said transaction device to perform operations comprising:

causing an activation request to be sent to a verification system, wherein said activation request includes an identifier of a user;

receiving a prompt to recite an audio pass phrase spoken by said user into said transaction device;

transmitting said audio pass phrase to said verification system;

receiving account information from said verification system in response to said audio pass phrase and a voiceprint template matching, wherein said account information includes an account number;

wirelessly transmitting at least said account information to an RFID device in response to said account information being received; and

a second non-transitory, tangible computer readable storage medium having instructions stored thereon that, in response to execution by said RFID device, cause said RFID device to perform operations comprising:

wirelessly communicating at least said account information to a reader to facilitate said purchase transaction.

15. A system comprising:

a transaction device in communication with a radio frequency identification (RFID) device, said transaction device programmed to:

receive an audio pass phrase;

cause an activation request to be sent to a verification system, wherein said activation request includes an identifier of a user;

receive a prompt for said user to recite said audio pass phrase;

transmit said audio pass phrase to said verification system;

receive account information from said verification system in response to said audio pass phrase and a voiceprint template matching, wherein said account information includes an account number;

wirelessly transmit at least said account information to said RFID device in response to said account information being received; and

said RFID device programmed to:

wirelessly communicate at least said account information to a reader to facilitate a purchase transaction.

16. The method of claim 1 , wherein said RFID device is disabled in response to said wirelessly communicating at least said account information.
