Abstract

A display device having a transmissive area and a reflective area includes a first substrate, a reflective electrode formed on the first substrate, wherein the reflective electrode is disposed in the reflective area, a second substrate facing the first substrate, a plurality of color filters formed on the second substrate, wherein the plurality of color filters have light holes in the reflective area, and a common electrode formed on the second substrate, wherein an area of the tight holes is more than about 20% of an area of the color filter in the reflective area.

Claims (38)

1. A display device having a transmissive area and a reflective area, the display device comprising:

a first substrate;

a reflective electrode formed on the first substrate, wherein the reflective electrode is disposed in the reflective area;

a second substrate facing the first substrate;

a plurality of color filters formed on the second substrate and representing different colors, wherein the plurality of color filters have light holes in the reflective area; and

a common electrode formed on the second substrate,

wherein the light holes have a substantially same area and the area of the light holes is more than about 20% of an area of the color filter in the reflective area.

2. The display device of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of color filters includes red, green and blue color filters.

3. The display device of claim 2 , wherein the area of the light holes is about 20% through about 80% of the area of the color filter in the reflective area.

4. The display device of claim 1 , wherein a value of a white Y of the reflective area is more than about 45.

5. The display device of claim 1 , further comprising:

a gate line and a data line formed on the first substrate;

a thin film transistor connected with the gate line and the data line; and

a pixel electrode connected with the thin film transistor, wherein the pixel electrode includes the reflective electrode and the transparent electrode.

6. The display device of claim 1 , further comprising:

a light blocking member formed on the second substrate.

7. The display device of claim 5 , further comprising:

an upper passivation layer and a lower passivation layer disposed between the thin film transistor and the pixel electrode.

8. The display device of claim 7 , wherein the upper passivation layer includes a via hole to expose the lower passivation layer.

9. The display device of claim 8 , wherein the upper passivation layer includes a plurality of embossing patterns.

10. A display device having a transmissive area and a reflective area, the display device comprising:

a first substrate;

a reflective electrode formed on the first substrate, wherein the reflective electrode is disposed in the reflective area;

a second substrate facing the first substrate; and

a plurality of color filters formed on the second substrate and representing different colors, wherein the plurality of color filters have light holes in the reflective area,

wherein the light holes have a substantially same area and the area of the light holes is about 20% through about 80% of the area of the color filter in the reflective area.

11. The display device of claim 10 , wherein the plurality of color fitters includes red, green and blue color filters.

12. The display device of claim 10 , wherein a value of a white Y of the reflective area is more than about 45.

13. The display device of claim 10 , further comprising:

a gate line and a data line formed on the first substrate;

a thin film transistor connected with the gate line and the data line; and

a pixel electrode connected with the thin film transistor, wherein the pixel electrode includes the reflective electrode and the transparent electrode.

14. The display device of claim 10 , further comprising:

a light blocking member formed on the second substrate.

15. The display device of claim 13 , further comprising:

an upper passivation layer and a lower passivation layer disposed between the thin film transistor and the pixel electrode.

16. The display device of claim 15 , wherein the upper passivation layer includes a via hole to expose the lower passivation layer.

17. The display device of claim 16 , wherein the upper passivation layer includes a plurality of embossing patterns.
