View Patent ↗A method and apparatus for communicating data between a device and a host apparatus through a USB interface detects and corrects USB transaction phase deviation due to erroneous recognition of handshake packets. A method comprises the steps of transmitting a first packet from the device to the host apparatus, the first packet being erroneously recognized by the host apparatus as a first type of packet, receiving a second packet from the host apparatus at the device in response to the first packet, and transmitting a third packet from the device to the host apparatus, the third packet being the first type of packet, in response to receiving the second packet from the host apparatus.
1. A method of communicating data in a device communicating with a host apparatus comprising:
counting a number of STALL packets transmitted from the device to the host apparatus;
counting a number of clear feature command packets received from the host apparatus as a response to the STALL packets without counting other packets received from the host apparatus as a false recognition of the STALL packets at the host apparatus; and
detecting an occurrence of a phase failure between the device and host apparatus based on the difference between the number of STALL packets and the number of clear feature command packets.
2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:
using a number of times a phase failure has occurred to perform self-diagnosis of the device.
3. The method of claim 2 , wherein using the number of times a phase failure has occurred to perform self diagnosis of the device comprises:
displaying an alarm on the device based on the number of times a phase failure has occurred.
4. The method of claim 3 , wherein using the number of times a phase failure has occurred to perform self diagnosis of the device comprises:
displaying an alarm on the host apparatus based on the number of times a phase, failure has occurred.
5. In a device operable to communicate data with a host apparatus, apparatus comprising:
a first counting unit operable to count a number of STALL packets transmitted from the device to the host apparatus;
a second counting unit operable to count a number of clear feature command packets received from the host apparatus as a response to the STALL packets without counting other packets received from the host apparatus as a false recognition of the STALL packets at the host apparatus; and
a detecting unit operable to detect an occurrence of a phase failure between the device and the host apparatus based on the difference between the number of STALL packets and the number of clear feature command packets.
6. The apparatus of claim 5 , further comprising:
a self-diagnosis unit operable to use a number of times a phase failure has occurred to perform self-diagnosis of the device.
7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the self-diagnosis unit comprises:
an alarm unit operable to display an alarm on the device based on the number of times a phase failure has occurred.
8. The method of claim 7 , wherein the self-diagnosis unit comprises:
an alarm unit operable to display an alarm on the host apparatus based on the number of times a phase failure has occurred.
