Systems and methods for manipulating and managing computer archive files
A computer program for managing and manipulating archive zip files of a computer. The program includes a system and method for opening, creating, and modifying, and extracting zip archive files. The program is fully integrated into Microsoft Windows Explorer and is accessed via Explorer menus, toolbars, and/or drag and drop operations. An important feature of the program is the archive manager which may be used to open a zip file, create a new zip file, extract zip files, modify zip files, etc. The program is integrated into Microsoft Windows Explorer using the shell name space extension application program interface developed by Microsoft.
1 . A method for modifying a .zip archive, said method including:
providing a graphical user interface using Microsoft Windows Explorer;
providing a .zip management application, wherein said .zip management application allows a user to modify a .zip archive using said graphical user interface;
providing a .zip archive;
using said graphical user interface to identify a modification to said .zip archive desired by a user;
storing an indication of said modification to said .zip archive; and
retrieving said indication of said modification when a command is received by said .zip management application.
2 . The method of claim 1 further including:
performing said modification of said .zip archive when a command is received by said .zip management application.
3 . The method of claim 1 wherein said command is a save command.
4 . The method of claim 2 wherein said command is a save command.
5 . A system for modifying a .zip archive, said system including:
a graphical user interface provided by Microsoft Windows Explorer; and
a .zip archive management application, wherein said .zip archive management application allows a user to modify a .zip archive using said graphical user interface,
wherein said .zip archive management application receives an indication of a modification desired by a user through said graphical user interface,
wherein said .zip archive management application includes data storage, wherein said data storage stores said indication of said modification to said .zip archive.
6 . The system of claim 6 wherein said .zip archive management application retrieves said indication from said data storage when a command is received by said .zip archive management application.
