Abstract

A vessel for containing liquid includes a floor perimetrically surrounded by a plurality of upwardly projecting walls; at least one exit port incorporated into at least one of the walls proximate to an upper edge of the at least one wall; and a liquid circulation pump apparatus. The liquid circulation pump apparatus includes a first conduit in fluid communication with the vessel; a circulation pump positioned downstream from and in fluid communication with the first conduit; a supply conduit positioned downstream from and in fluid communication with the circulation pump; and a diverter valve positioned downstream of the circulation pump and upstream of the supply conduit. The circulation pump is adapted to pump liquid from the vessel through the first conduit and deliver liquid through the supply conduit to the exit port. The diverter valve is adapted to change a rate of flow of liquid supplied to the exit port.

Claims (24)

1. A vessel for containing a liquid comprising:

a) a floor perimetrically surrounded by a plurality of upwardly projecting walls, the floor and the walls defining a liquid containing area, each wall having an upper edge disposed at an end of the wall opposite the floor and defusing a top of the liquid containing area;

b) at least a portion of one of the walls including at least one raised rim portion having one of the upper edges of the walls, the upper edge of the raised rim portion positioned a height above the other upper edges, the at least one raised rim portion extends across an entire length of the wall and includes a sloped portion which blends into the upper edges of the walls adjacent to the at least one raised rim portion forming a smooth continuous transition along the upper edge surface of the raised rim to the upper edges of the walls adjacent the raised rim portion; and

c) at least one waterfall device disposed within the at least one raised rim portion, whereby

at least one supply orifice extending through the at least one raised rim portion, the at least one supply orifice being in communication with a liquid supply conduit; and

at least one spillway ledge disposed in the at least one raised rim portion, the at least one spillway ledge extending from the at least one supply orifice in a direction away from the adjacent raised rim portion to a spillway edge located above a height of the other upper edges.

2. The vessel of claim 1 , wherein the walls, including the at least one raised rim portion, are integrally formed.

3. The vessel of claim 1 , wherein the at least one waterfall device comprises:

two supply orifices extending through the at least one raised rim portion, the supply orifices being horizontally extending slots disposed in a surface of the at least one raised rim portion, the supply orifices being in communication with a liquid supply conduit;

a separator ridge disposed in the at least one raised rim portion between the two supply orifices; and

two spillway ledges disposed in the at least one raised rim portion, the spillway ledges extending from respective supply orifices to respective edges located above a height of the other upper edges.

4. The vessel of claim 1 , further comprising a plurality of lights disposed in the at least one raised rim portion.

5. The vessel of claim 1 , wherein the waterfall device is disposed in the at least one raised rim portion above a water level in the liquid containing area so as to create a distance for falling water to drop before reaching the water level.

6. The vessel of claim 3 , including a liquid circulation system having a supply conduit in communication with the at least one supply orifice.

7. The vessel of claim 6 , wherein the liquid circulation system includes a circulation pump to supply pressurized liquid from the supply conduit to the at least one supply orifice.

8. The vessel of claim 7 , including a diverter valve for changing a rate of flow of liquid supplied to the at least one supply orifice.

9. The vessel of claim 8 , wherein the liquid circulation pump further comprises a discharge line in fluid communication with the diverter valve and a discharge port adapted to be positioned on one of the floor and the plurality of upwardly projecting walls.

10. The vessel of claim 1 , wherein the at least one waterfall device is associated with a liquid circulation pump apparatus, said liquid circulation pump apparatus comprising:

a first conduit in fluid communication with a liquid containing area of a vessel;

a circulation pump in fluid communication with the first conduit, the first conduit positioned upstream of the circulation pump;

a supply conduit in fluid communication with the circulation pump, the supply conduit positioned downstream of the circulation pump; and

a diverter valve positioned downstream of the circulation pump and upstream of the supply conduit and in fluid communication with the circulation pump and the supply conduit, wherein the circulation pump is adapted to pump liquid from the liquid containing area through the first conduit and deliver pressurized liquid through the supply conduit to the at least one exit port, and the diverter valve is adapted to change a rate of flow of liquid supplied to the at least one exit port.

11. The vessel of claim 1 , further comprising a primary pump for providing pressurized liquid through a plurality of jets positioned on at least one of the floor or a wall of the vessel.

12. The vessel of claim 1 , wherein the spillway ledge and spillway edge are configured to allow liquid from said supply orifice to flow downwardly along said spillway ledge and spillway edge and along at least one of said walls of said vessel.
